Remember Bill Barnwell? When we last saw him, he was predicting that the Bears would be one of the worst teams in football last year in the preseason. Although he won his Bears UNDER 8.5 wins bet, it was pure luck that took injuries to their top 2 offensive players. This year he is betting Bears UNDER 8.5 wins on Grantland, but at least he's admitted he's the least sure about this pick than any other he's made.

apparently they have moved james brown from RT to LT. interesting.

Reading between the lines it doesnt sound like Chris Williams is doing that well at LT. My guess is they still want him on the field and a move back to LG is still in play. Probably want to get Brown reps at LT to secure the 3rd OT spot so there is no shuffle in case of injury.

I guess new acquisition Brian Price was beyond bad today, more like an absolute disaster. It sure seems we get sucked into buying a bad bill of goods when it comes to DLineman from Tampa.

Well there goes a 7th round pick we'll never see again! Man...that could've turned into something amazing too....

Yea, might want to give the guy more than one practice.

I'm sorry but our Dline looks to be a disaster this season, with the exception of Peppers it's a bag of questions. Melton isn't as good as his stats were last season and Shea won't contribute enough this year for this line to be any good.

I actually agree with your negativity for once. I am worried about the D-Line. As good as this team appears, they have major question marks on the offensive and defensive lines, which I tend to believe are the two most important position groups on a football team besides QB.

Paea should have a good season.

Disaster is pretty crazy to say. First of all, Peppers is one of the top 3 players at his position. That's a pretty good start. Not even sure what "Melton isn't as good as his stats were last season" even means. He did disappear for several weeks in the early-middle of the season, but you're still talking about a guy that was at or near the league lead in sacks for his position, that was in his 1st year starting at DT after playing DE, FB, LB, etc. in college and his first 3 years in the NFL. I think he's a guy that's going to take a huge step forward this year. As Raisin said, Paea should improve. He's a 2nd round pick, that was a 1st round talent, just drafted last year. Brian Price was also a borderline 1st round talent, as he was drafted 35 overall just 3 years ago. Still very young. Don't put too much stock into a guy's first practice when he barely was able to pass the physical. It might take him right up to the season to get into shape, but the ability is still there, and still we're talking about the 4th DT here.

As for DE, I don't have much hope for McClellin to be a huge contributor this season, but by all accounts Corey Wootton has had a really good camp so far. Chauncey Davis has also done some positive things. The DL definitely has some question marks, but they have 1 superstar player, and several developing talents (McClellin, Paea, Price, Melton), 3 of whom were top 50 selections within the last 3 years. The worry is that all these guys seem to have prior health concerns, but all were healthy for the most part last year, though none probably truly at 100%.

lol...Tice taking a shot at Martz?

“When we’re running into bad number counts, then that falls back on us. Then we look like dummies,” Tice said. “We want to put them in position to succeed, and sometimes it’s scheme.”

So I'm skipping around to some other teams forums today seeing what other teams' fans are thinking about the Bears. And man, this thread on a Lions board is just super funny. But it was this line at the top of page 5 that made me have to post it...

I am not sure at this point how effective brandon marshall will be.I think titus Young is evry bit as good as marshall

This argument actually continues for about 3-4 pages.

Yikes, I thought we had some idiot posters around here. I wonder what their thread from last year's beatdown at Soldier looks like?

Are we ever going back to wearing white on white? I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened since the 2009 opening night disaster in GB.

It should happen for every away game.

Agreed. I especially like the white-on-white during indoor games. Looks so clean, and has no chance of getting dirty. Plus, I believe Devin Hester returned 2 kickoffs for TDs in the all-white in St. Louis.

This Lions thread is fun to read. Thanks for the link.

Not sure if this guy was intentionally being a homer, or really thinks this, but I wouldnt put it past a Lions fan...

The Lions are the superior team.

Qb? Lions.

OL? Lions.

Wr? Lions.

TE? Lions.

RB? Split - nah, ill say Lions. Way more versatile. They don't have a homerun hitter like Best. We've got Leshoure, Smith and Williams to pound.

DL? Lions. Not even close. I know 43 year old Peppers is great and all, but can you say declining?

LB? See DL, but replace the word Peppers with Urlacher.

CB? Hmm...Houston is every bit as good as Tillman. After that, maybe the Bears, we don't know yet.

S? Major Wright, Craig Steltz, Anthony Walters, Jeremy Jones, Brandon Hardin and Chris Conte? I'd say that list is about as scary as the Lions.

Coaching? I'll take our staff over the Bears staff all day. I'm not convinced Lovie Smith is even alive. Weekend at Bernie's = Lovie Smith. Rod Marinelli? I don't even like to speak that name. Mike Tice? Heard he was hangin out with the Oline desperately trying to figure out wtf he's going to do with that mess.

Lions.

If I put on my "trying to be unbiased" Bears tinted glasses:

QB - Bears

OL - Lions

WR - Split/slight adv Lions

RB - Bears

TE - Lions

DL - Lions

LB - Bears

CB - Bears

S - Lions

ST - Bears

Coach - Split/slight adv Bears (not just X&O's evaluation)

Team more likely to have a stater in jail at gametime - Lions

Team more likely to have a player stomp on the face of another and claim he was catching his balance - Lions

Bears.
