Chris Williams at LT and just about anyone else at gaurd is better then Webb at LT and Williams at LG

I was going to say Omiyale would make it worse if he were at guard, but then I remembered they cut him. Then I smiled.

They need to at least give Williams a shot to beat out Webb. At the very least, he's the potential swing tackle if there is an injury, so he needs work there. (Louis could move to RT, but probably not LT)

As far as Webb we can only hope that actually being able to work with Tice this summer will help him improve. One thing for sure, his credibility is at stake here.

Despite Tice's love of Webb, I suspect the Bears wouldn't be moving Chris Williams to tackle to be a reserve/swing guy. And Carimi is starting.

Chris Williams certainly wasn't our best lineman last year and in fact, there was little drop off, if any when Edwin Williams started in his place. I have no problem with a Williams/Webb competition at LT this year, though Chris is going to have to find a way to keep from getting knocked on his ass all the time.

The article said Williams would most likely be a swing tackle and Webb would start.

Before he got hurt, I think Carimi was our highest graded lineman. Though he played so little of the season, not that much of sample size to make an legit argument. I thought Spencer was our best lineman myself last year, and again, didn't notice a difference when Edwin Williams stepped in. I don't see any issue with CW pushing Webb at LT.

Carimi just didn't play anywhere near enough for me to consider him the best. Although he probably will be going forward. Williams may be a better tackle than Webb, but I don't think he'll be a good one. And with this being his last year under contract I think it's a waste to try and get a mediocre year out of him at tackle and then force yourself to make a decision about his next contract after next year. I'd rather see if you can lock him down as a solid LG and try to actually solve the LT position instead of year to year patchwork.

I'm fairly certain there is no decision to be made on Chris Williams, he's a defined "bust" and unless he's willing to come back on the cheap he's gone. I just think, for this year, he could do the job of being serviceable at left tackle.

Definitely.

I don't think Spencer was very good last year. The only players I can say played above average on the OL last year were both Williamses.

Finally get a chance to offer what would've been my draft:

1)Reiff-OT-Iowa

2)Curry-DE-Marshall

3)Sanu-WR-Rutgers

4)Boykin-CB-UGA

6)Brown-OT/OG-Troy

7)Burfict-ILB-Ariz. St

I thought the entire draft was a head scratcher, there were some picks I liked and some I didn't. Overall, I was disappointed in it. I still think they need help on the O-Line and overdrafted on most.

Overall I think Emery has had a good off-season, but I'm sketpical as far as the '12 draft.

My draft would have been (no trade up):

1 Nick Perry, DE, USC

2 Rueben Randle, WR, LSU

3 Bobby Massie, OT, Ole Miss

4 Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia

5 George Iloka, S, Boise St

6 James Hanna, TE, Oklahoma

7 Deangelo Tyson, DT, Georgia

As I look back at it, I think the entire NFL draft was odd this year. There were quality players that dropped, teams taking players that weren't well suited for their schemes ( McClellin for Chicago, Perry for GB, etc)

What's really interesting is the Bears may have playmakers at WR, seems like it's been forever since they've had any big play WR's. Not only that but, tall, physical WR's it'll be great for the opposition to have worry about handling the Bears' big WR's in the red zone for a change.

Except they talk about Webb is for certain the starting LT. And still talk about moving Williams to LT, presumably as the backup.

that makes zero sense. I thought they were saying Webb as the swing tackle/back-up

what the hell? When he played, Chris Williams was the only O-lineman that was better that league average on the Bears. I wish I could go back to individual weeks on Football Outsiders to show the numbers up to the week he got hurt. He was actually one of the better players at his position last year. Simply put, he was having a breakout season before he got hurt.

Yeah, Theo REALLY needs to change his name.

The Biggs article in question states he thinks it's clear Williams will be moved to tackle, that Williams will be used as a swing tackle, and that Webb will be the starter.

Bummer. Simply amazing that so many guys leave tons of money on the table due to off field issues. A chance to work for 8-10 years and retire comfortably for the rest of your life or asking if you want fries with that seems like it would make these kids stay out of trouble. That has to be a tough pill to swallow several years from now when they are still dealing with those off field issues that kept them from getting drafted at all, and you know you had the talent to start on just about any NFL team had you kept your nose clean.

On a happier note, someone stepping aside for off field issues is making someone else's life much better for at least a little while.

These guys are still college kids, and college kids are, by and large, stupid.

Rashaan Salaam talks about being dumb when he came into the league.

Redskins release Jabar Gaffney. Any interest there, or are we feeling good at WR now?

We're at least feeling bloated, if not good. I can't imagine any reason to bring in another.

Yeah, it's getting pretty full. I'm excited about our WR's. I don't know that that's ever been the case for me before.
