biggs is a tool. one of his tweets right before the trade went down was directed at a guy who was asking about marshall: "haven't heard anything about marshall" or something like that, and laying the condescension on thick. then boom, marshall traded like 5 minutes later. lol, it was awesome.

Definitely. Basically everyone (national media) loved the trade for the Bears. The thought that he was going to get cut definitely seems like spin from the Dolphins who are dealing with angry fans. However, even if he was cut, I would imagine that the Bears would have had to pay more in money than they are currently--or possibly miss out on him entirely if another team comes in with a better deal. I like that they basically secured getting the player for what wasn't a huge price.

Hell yeah. The Bears had to get a WR. They couldn't wait to see if MAYBE the Dolphins would cut Marshall. It was either go after Marshall, get into a bidding war in free agency, or gamble the WR they was there for them in the draft. It wasn't feasible to sit and do none of the above waiting to see if Marshall would get cut.

They got Marshall for less money than Vincent Jackson took to get in Tampa, who is an inferior player to Marshall. Sure they gave up 2 draft picks also, but that's a deal you make 100 times out of 100.

This seems like spin control, by the Dolphins. Sorry, but I just have a very hard time believing they would release an elite receiver in his prime. I also have a very hard time believing no other teams were interested in trading for a guy like that, at a bargain price. The Dolphins have yet to do anything right this offseason, so now they're spinning this, trying to make it out that this was a great deal.

Ross calls up a season ticket holder who then goes to the media with the story?

LOL, I didn't know that's how things were done in Miami.

It's either spin, or Ross is bush league, or both.

I guess fans have been picketing headquarters and everything in Miami. Not a real good scene down there. I suppose from their perspective, they were about to pair up Manning with a top receiving threat, and now they've basically got nothing happening.

Still, the logic just doesn't hold up. Even if the Bears were the only ones to jump at a trade, it's very likely others would have jumped in if he went to free agency. Therefore, the Bears got value by not letting it get that far.

It could be argued that if Marshall was a FA and got to go wherever he wanted, he would have been likely to pick Chicago anyway due to Cutler. But the Bears couldn't afford to wait to see if Miami cut Marshall in 2 days or 2 months. Even if you told me there was a better than 50/50 chance he would get cut and a 50/50 chance he went to the Bears vs. the other 30 teams, I still would be OK with the trade.

So the Broncos just signed Hanie to a 2 year deal to back up Peyton. Could possibly be third string but still, what could they have seen from last year to make them want to sign him?

yea, 2 3rd rds for a pro bowl WR isn't a bad deal no matter how you look at it, questioning it is revisionist bs

Seriously. I was certain his NFL career was over. Must be that delicious 41.8 QB Rating he turned in last year. He's up there with Jonathan Quinn and Henry Burris as worst QBs to ever wear a Bears uniform.

Maybe they figure if Peyton can't play they want to at least ensure the top pick.

In all seriousness Hanie could be a backup in this league. He has decent tools, he just forced way too many awful throws. With the right coaching and development he can carve a role as a career backup. He's not devoid of talent completely. That said, I won't surprise if he doesn't stick after this year and if he doesn't, his career is over for sure.

It'll be better for him if Peyton stays healthy. The promise of Caleb is infinitely more appealing than the reality of Caleb.

How much of Hanie sucking had to do with Martz? Just curious.

I don't know. But I'm pretty sure Broncos fans would rather not have to find out.

Does nobody remembers Rick Mirer in '97? Man... talk about ugly. He makes Hanie look like a HoFer.

Then you have the immortal Todd Collins with his 5.9 QB rating in the 2 games he played for the Bears and won a game in his only start.

Sadly he'll likely not be the same even when he does come back.

Knox to start season on PUP list, and may miss 2012 season.

They better draft a WR in the first two rounds.
