I hate saying it, but it really looks like we think our O Line is solid. I'd love McNeill and either of Freeney or Wimbley, if they're cut loose.

Agreed.

Yep. Get McNeill and a DE (even if you have to bring back Idonije), and you have a capable starter at every position on the field. You'd still like to upgrade OL and WR more, along wtih SS, SLB, and the pass rush (if only bring Izzy back)....but the team will have improved their biggest holes with Marshall and McNeill. Get Wimbley, bring back Okoye, and draft well, and you have a championship contender in Chicago.

I dunno about McNeill, I think he'd ultimately be disappointing.

He's not Orlando Pace out there, but it's hard to be disappointed by someone off the scrap heap. It's also hard to be disappointed by someone who is an absolute given to be an upgrade over having Omiyale and Webb at LT for the last 2 years.

as opposed to the great success story call J'Marcus Webb?????

I really don't think he'd be much of an improvement.

the only way he's not an improvement is if he's not 100%, which he is. sign him to a deal that says you can cut him after the year with minimal implications.

J'Marcus Webb was the worst LT in football last year, as a reference/starting point.

Just saw him get beat a lot while watching all those Charger games in SD. Most of their fans aren't impressed with him either. Granted he'd be better than Webb but that's really not saying much.

Also, you guys are acting like I said he should never be signed. I didn't. Just said I'm really not impressed with the guy. Just surprised to see people thinking he's an "imperative" signing.

He was hurt for part of last season. He hasn't been as good as he was as a rookie, but he's still better than any other option the Bears would plug in at LT between FA and the draft.

I saw a lot of Charger games this year too (LA is apparently both Raider territory and Charger territory).

It does not sound as if the team is intent on finding a new starter for the offensive line, however. Smith indicated he was excited about Gabe Carimi and Chris Williams returning from injuries.

“I like the look of our offensive line with the guys with have signed up right now,” he said.

Asked about adding a lineman, Emery said the Bears always are searching for depth. He said they could look at other free-agent linemen, and the team will look “very hard” at offensive linemen in the draft.

I take from that, that they don't like the FA linemen and will probably draft a prospect, my guess in the 2nd-4th round.

As long as Emery doesn't spend 8 years without drafting a lineman before the 5th round they should be able to continue building the line without spending on free agents all the time. Angelo wasted a lot of money on those guys.

Is it common for players to get suspended for assault? Seems like most suspensions come from DUIs, PEDs, gun charges, etc.

Unless Marshall's supposed victim has assembled a large group of people who witnessed the alleged punch, I don't see how it becomes anything but a "he said, she said" situation.

If you're not going to spend on OL in free agency (and yeah, there isn't much left in free agency), a 1st or 2nd round tackle is a must. Or an early guard if Chris Williams is swinging back to tackle.

they can't suspend him without a conviction. look at big ben, never been suspended.

That might be a bad example since Ben was suspended for the first four games of the year in 2010 (of course you may have been joking and I completely missed it).

i wasn't joking, i totally forgot about that. i thought he wasn't suspended. well, i guess they CAN suspend him without a conviction. which is bs.

essentially, he was suspended for contributing to the delinquency of minors, though. he bought alcohol for college students or something, right?

Yeah, there isn't a need for a conviction. It's not a court of law. It's a PR thing. If Marshall gets charged and the police more or less buy her story, he's going to get suspended. If this just hangs out there for a while with no charges, I doubt anything happens.
