The general manager job the Bears are working to fill might not be the only prominent position the organization needs to address for the coming season.

It’s now possible recently promoted offensive coordinator Mike Tice could be headed elsewhere.

According to a club and NFL sources, the Raiders have requested permission to interview Tice for their head coaching position. In accordance with NFL rules, the Bears must grant permission, unlike the move they made Monday when they blocked secondary coach Jon Hoke from interviewing with the Vikings for their defensive coordinator position. Tice did not reply to messages from the Tribune.

You can't deny permission for HC interview.

Well technically they can, but they're unlikely to.

No, per NFL rules they have to allow him to interview for the HC position.

Huh...sure enough. I don't understand why they bother asking permission then.

Professional courtesy. Plus I think they have to specifically ask for them to interview for the head coaching position.

Teams and coaches probably want their assistants to get interviews elsewhere because it gives the impression, at least, that the staff is well respected around the league.

Oh, I didn't realize they can't deny permission. Good to know.

oh comon! the Raiders arent going to hire Mike Tice to be their HC. and if they do, they sink their own ship.

Which would be completely new and different for the Raiders!

Them sinking their own ship will be little in the way on consolation.

considering old man Al is gone, I think it would be surprising. McKenzie doesnt strike me as that dumb.

not to us, but the reality of hiring a guy who didnt exactly set the NFL on fire the last time he was HC will probably be enough to keep them away.

I like Tice as a position coach.

I'm open to him being a Offensive Coordinator.

I'm appalled by the idea of him as a HC.

Would you really need to be consoled if Tice was no longer the Bears OC?

Depending on his replacement, possibly.

that would be my only worry: the Bears hiring someone less exciting then Tice. And it is a legit concern, but I really doubt Tice gets the Raiders gig

Hehe. Oh no we might lose that mediocre guy we just hired! Which would leave too little time to bring in the next medicore guy! Which would mean a less-than-mediocre guy!

If my choice is between stale and boring, and pile of crap, I'll take stale and boring, thx.

We've already hit rock-bottom. We once had John Shoop.

Are you suggesting we shouldn't worry about the quality of our OC, cuz 10 years ago we had a real stinker?

This just reminded me of Shoop. I firmly believe I will never see a professional coach in any sport worse than John Shoop for the rest of my life.

The Chicago Bears are about midway through their first round of interviews for their vacant general manager position, with Giants college scouting director Marc Ross getting his turn at Halas Hall on Wednesday.

Up next is Bears personnel director Tim Ruskell. He is expected to be given a chance to state his case before team president Ted Phillips and company on Thursday.

On Friday, the Bears will interview Chiefs director of scouting Phil Emery.
