Do people hate this simply because it's going to be a joint-effort calling offensive plays? I have to think Tice was largely responsible for the success of the running game this year (even after the injuries to C. Williams and Forte) and for fixing a lot of the protection issues with minimal talent to work with. Therefore I'm fine with this move for the time being.

Let's wait and see who the "passing game coach" is before hating on this move. That's pretty much all Martz was anyway.

The DeCosta news is even worse but the Tice news is bad. Everyone predicted it too.

Martz's system is designed to get guys like Forte the type of season he had under Martz, which was better than anything he did without Martz and will probably be better than he does in a different system from Martz.

I hate it because everything about Mike Tice screams dumb jock. I hate it because it's almost certainly a short-term bandaid that will simply delay Cutler's development. I hate it because it increases the chances that the Bears end up wasting their opportunity to win with a franchise quarterback, perhaps pushing him out the door.

This. The entire organization at this point is a total joke. I just cant wait to see what stupid hire they make at GM.

How many more seasons is Cutler under contract for? Is it 1 or 2?

He is signed through 2013. So any extension talk should start this offseason and be decided by next winter. Going into 2013 without an extension would be horrible.

Jay will be on his 5th OC in 6 years starting in 2013.

This change seems less impactful to Jay than previous ones, though. Since Tice was already familiar with the offense, and should be on the same page with Jay, in theory.

I don't think so. I don't see Tice running Martz's system at all. Best case scenario, the new QB coach becomes the next OC in a year or two. But worst case is that Tice/New guy run some 1995 scheme that waste Jay's ability, and they clean house in 2013, and the Bears try and go cheap on Jay's extension since his numbers won't be great, while Jay chooses to play for free agency and go to a team with a clue about offense.

Please stop. I honestly don't know if I could handle that. That makes the Bulls post-Jordan era seem bearable (no pun intended).

It's not what I picture happening, but it's worst case for certain. If they acquire a solid GM and the QB coach is respectable they aren't going to come close to worst case, but it's not crazy. There's still room to make this thing work perfectly.

CHICAGO -- Tennessee Titans quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Dowell Loggains is emerging as a candidate for a similar position with the Chicago Bears, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Loggains is being touted by Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, and Bears coach Lovie Smith has been making calls inquiring about the 31-year-old coach, according to the source.

While Tennessee might not let Loggains leave for a lateral move while he's under contract, Loggains would be interested in the move because he has a strong, personal relationship with Cutler. Cutler wanted Loggains for the position two years ago, after Pep Hamilton was fired, but former offensive coordinator Mike Martz brought in Shane Day. Martz and Day parted ways with the Bears on Tuesday.

If Cutler wants it, I'm good with it. Doesn't seem likely with Loggains being under contract still. I don't know what they could do to make it seem like more in title.

Considering the Bears wouldn't let Tice interview there last year I'm not sure why they would let him come here.

I remember reading somewhere that the Bears have 4 picks in the top 90. Is that true?

They got Carolina's 3rd rounder, and pick at 19 themselves. So yeah, they will have 4 in the top 90.

Googling to clarify what they got brings up a bunch of articles about how stupid that deal was. They traded Olsen because he didn't fit in the OC's system but the OC's system was only going to be in place for 1 year. So stupid.

I suppose on the bright side, the guy who made that call isn't here anymore.

I don't think the Olsen trade was that bad. I think the 71st pick of the draft can go to get a good player that plays a much more important position than TE.

Pompei says that theres an internal movement to get Phillips to hire Ruskell as GM. I'd be pissed beyond belief if they did that.
