Howard is coming off like a major douche, if you want to "be the man" then go out and be the best player on the team. I would still do Deng/Boozer for a Howard rental. Gets us out of the bad years of boozers deal, frees up cap room when howard leaves and turk expires and gives us the best team in the NBA. Howard-Noah might be the best rebounding tandum in NBA history. Our defense would be insane.

I actually think Noah and Howard together reaches the point of diminishing returns. Too much paint clogging to let Rose operate. I'd rather have a stretch 4 playing alongside Dwight.

Anyway, the theoretical cap space that would be made available if Dwight left is only worth spending on Dwight and I guess Eric Gordon. Deron is the other big FA fish and obviously not a fit. I'd love Gordon to play off of Rose but a Rose, Gordon, Noah core isn't getting it done, IMO.

I wouldn't be too excited about Rose, Gordon, Noah as a core for next year, but speaking of a stretch 4: hopefully Mirotic will be able to come over either next year or the one after.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/ken-berger/17732655/keep-dwight-not-if-the-magic-could-trade-him-to-chicago

The Orlando Magic would like to seriously engage the Bulls in trade talks for Dwight Howard, but the All-Star center’s apparent reluctance to make a long-term commitment to Chicago has all but killed the discussions, league sources told CBSSports.com.

The feeling among rival executives remains that the Magic seem intent on rolling the dice and keeping Howard for the rest of the season, hoping a long playoff run, emotional ties to Orlando and an extra year and $29 million they could offer would persuade him to stay beyond this season. But the move would be highly risky, given that Howard has refused to publicly commit to the Magic — a stance that sources view as a strong sign that hed leave as a free agent if he isn’t traded.

“He’s telling everyone he’s leaving,” one league source said Sunday.

You know, I wasn't even paying attention, this deal wouldn't even include Noah. It'd be Asik, Deng, Boozer and the Charlotte pick for Howard and Turkoglu.

I'd strongly consider that even without an extension. Don't know if I'd do it or not but I'd strongly consider it.

I'm thinking there's some misreporting going on there. That deal is a dream for the Bulls.

That would be a major, ballsy move by Gar. If Howard won't commit to an extension then you face the real possibility of giving Howard's (formerly occupied by Deng-Boozer-Asik) cap number to two guys like Gerald Wallace and Eric Gordon, unless you think you can sign-and-trade (still viable under the new CBA?) Howard to LA for Gasol and someone else.

You can sign and trade, but Howard would still have to leave the 30 million behind in that scenario. He doesn't get to use his Bird rights and also do a sign and trade. And while that deal would work this offseason, after next year teams like the Lakers won't be able to acquire sign and trade players because of being so far above the luxury tax.

Well, I was just asking if they would. But at least one of his injuries was incidental and unless his latest is chronic, it shouldn't stop any team from going after him. The amount of even good 2-guards in the league is razor thin.

Unless the Bulls get creative with their cap space, even after losing Howard, I don't think they would have enough room to go after Gordon. They'd have to basically gut the rest of the team to make any kind of a serious effort, and that certainly isn't worth it for a restricted free agent who might get matched anyway. And they certainly don't have any room with the team they have now.

Right. It's still a shame.

With recent reports that he would accept a trade to the Heat or Clippers (in addition to the Lakers, Nets, and Mavericks) I no longer believe he doesn't want to come to Chicago because he wants to be the man. It's obviously something else. My guess is that he doesn't want to play for Thibs.

It's a shame too because it sounds like the Bulls would make the trade with assurance of an extension and we have the pieces to satisfy the Magic.

What about if we trade Deng, Boozer, Asik and Charlotte pick for Dwight and Hedo and then turn around and spin Dwight somewhere else? I'm really intrigued that the Magic would want Boozer back. Maybe it was misreported?

If he doesn't want to be here, whatever it wasn't meant to be. Everyone always says that Chicago is an attractive market for NBA FA's but what has that gotten us? Two highly visable rejections by superstar FA classes in the last 10+ years (McGrady, LeBron, Wade, Bosh), and Ben Wallace and Carlos Boozer the only All Star caliber FAs to sign here. That's still more than many markets would be able to get, but for a supposedly attractive destination that's a disappointment considering the number of years the Bulls have gone out for FAs.

The "losing 30 million" thing is quite overblown. It's just the extra year that he loses, not AAV. At age 26, Howard would be hitting his next free agent year a year younger, which would set him up for a better contract. I think it favors him more than hurts him
