The 1984 discussion in the McD's thread is sort of making me want to buy this Cubs DVD set just to watch some of those older games/highlights.

http://www.amazon.com/Chicago-Cubs-Legends-Great-Collectors/dp/B000NO23ZS

Anyone have it? Worth it?

Any others that would be worth looking into? Maybe that 2008 documentary thing...did that ever come out?

EDIT - that amazon link shows one called We Believe and another one called Forever Loyal as similar items. The 2008 might be one of these, I guess. Probably the We Believe one.

Yeah its not bad. I pop them in every once in awhile. Since the MLB are nazis about allowing places like youtube to stream old baseball games, its hard to watch games like this anywhere else.

For a while MLBTV had archives of every game dating back to the beginning of the 2007 season. I kept telling myself that one day I'd go back and watch some highlights of 2008 (Cubs sweeping the Sox at Wrigley, the nine run comeback vs the Rockies, four game sweep in Milwaukee) but now I can't find any of them. I feel like Homer Simpson when he got to the mall after Mr. T had already left. :(

The Rockies comeback is for sale on iTunes I believe. I have highlights of most of the big moments from 07-08 - if you want anything specific, let me know.

My favorite 2008 games...

1. ATTA BOY JIMMY

2. Cubs come back from down 5-2 with two outs and nobody on in the 9th vs Milwaukee and win in extras

3. Scoring 5 in the 8th against the Phillies to win 6-4, including Aramis grand slam

4. Dropping 19 on the Brewers

5. Rich Harden's first start

Crazy, the Z no-no doesn't even make my list. It gets honorable mention, though. So does dropping double digit runs on every Pirates left handed starter.

No idea how that Rockies game isn't in your top 5.

Whoops. That was some sort of weird brain cramp combining the two games he posted about.

It's definitely in there.

Although it doesn't help that most of it happened while I watched us fall behind 8 runs on gamecast and then didn't listen for most of my drive home from work that day.

Those are great moments. At the expense of derailing this thread, here are a few more I personally hold dear.

1. The Sunday game against the Marlins at Wrigley where a Cub slump had put the Cubs into a tie with Milwaukee. The Cubs went down 5-0 and the Brewers were up 4-1 over Houston at the same time. NSBB was doom and gloom and figured we were going into a 4 game series in Milwaukee 1 game back. Suddenly, with the score 5-2 Sori hits a 3 run shot to tie and the Astros hang a 7 spot on Milwakuee and after a huge Fontenot bases clearly double in the 8th to break the tie, the Cubs ended the day 1 up, before going to Milwaukee and getting a 4 game sweep, effectively taking control of the division

2. Another Marlins game, this one in Florida. The Cubs had historically struggled at that park, so many were anxious to see how this team was different. The Cubs were down 5-3 in the 9th when Daryle Ward hit a 3 run bomb to give the Cubs the lead. Woody came on and was shaky but somehow retired the Marlins for the W.

3. Cubs Cardinals game where Jim Edmonds hit 2 solo HRs to provide the scoring in a 2-1 win. I still dislike Edmonds, but it was awesome to see him stare at LaRussa in the Cardinals dugout after his 2nd HR.

4. Obviously we lost and that sucked, but Fukudome's 3 run homer on opening day was amazing live.

5. The double comeback in Colorado. Cubs were down 5-4 in the 9th. Ramirez hits a 2 run homer to give the Cubs the lead, Woody blows the save, and then in the top of the next inning the Cubs scratch another run across on a Theriot single and finally closed the door in the bottom half.

6. Comeback win over the White Sox at Wrigley. Cubs trailing 3-1 in the 7th. Lee hits a solo HR to make it 3-2, and then Ramirez gives some lucky fan $7000 by going back to back in the 7th inning to tie it. Then Ramirez leads off the 9th and take the first pitch to the shrubs in CF for the win.

7. Game 1 of the aforementioned Brewers-Cubs series in Milwaukee. Sabathia was the big story in baseball and lights out since getting to Milwaukee. Soriano led the game off with a double and eventually scored, then in the 3rd he hit a solo HR to make it 2-0. The Brewers ended up taking a 3-2 lead until the Cubs scored 2 off a Weeks error. After a Branyan HR to tie it, in the 9th with 2 on, Lee pulled a double into RF to score the go ahead run and clinching the victory. So satisfying.

The MLB is soo dumb. If they made a dvd for each playoff season 84, 89, 98, 03, 07, and 08 picked the top 5 games of those seasons put some extras on there(big plays, clinching celebrations, etc.) they would have me and many others buying those dvds. Don't get why they don't.

Daryle Ward's homer, Jim Edmonds's most-likely-apocryphal "[expletive] done with St. Louis" game, the back to back Mets games in April where Cedeno and Pie of all people had huge home runs, the Reed Johnson game against Arizona, Aramis's White Sox walk-off...I really want a DVD encompassing that whole regular season. Most fun I've ever had day to day with a sports team.

The best moment for me though was the Aramis slam against Philly, though, because the Cubs had come through so many times by that point that I was virtually certain Aramis was going to homer.

I got home from work and was completely exhausted and turned that game on when they were down big. I was going to take a nap since the Cubs were down 8 but I was like [expletive] it, I have nothing better to do. I made a good choice to watch the rest of that game.

That season was awesome.

I was in Vegas for that Ward HR game vs. the Marlins and had bet on the game. I've never had a bad thing to say about Daryle Ward since that day. He won me a whopping $20.

It's really disappointing that they didn't put any 03 (or even 04) games into that package. The 05 Lee game really does nothing for me. Like really.

Even the Maddux game is pretty MEH.

Give me one of the 03 September Cardinals games or an awesome Prior start from that year any day. Or the Nomar debut. Or the Clemens/Wood/Choi game from 03.

And obviously, some 07-08 stuff would be cool but the package was put out before those seasons.

That 5 game series at Wrigley was my first baseball season in St. Louis and that was absolutely amazing to be able to talk trash after that series was over. I haven't had much to talk about since then unfortunately.

Yeah, I just bought this for my dad, but I'm underwhelmed by their choices for the last two. It's not like the Cubs had a shortage of amazing games in 2003 and 2004.

There was an awesome game in that 5-game series in 03 when the Cubs came back from like 6 or 7 runs down... the trolling on the mlb.com boards was fantastic.

IIRC, they brought in Woody Williams from the pen on 1 day rest to try and lock it down, and we beat up on him too.

I know for certain that Felix Sanchez gave up a grand slam to make it 6-0. Fucked up that I remember that.

That 2005 game is fun if only because you see Neifi and Enrique Wilson at 1-2 for the Cubs. And because Jon Koronka was the starter.

If they were going to choose a Derrick Lee game to commentate that season, I'm surprised they didn't choose the 6-6 game at Wrigley against the Marlins.

Not sure if it still is, but I bought it a while back. I was actually in the CF bleachers for that game. I was a little drunk and kept yelling at everyone that we were going to make a comeback. They laughed and laughed until we actually did. Wrigley was nuts that day. So much fun. We kept chanting "SIX-RUN-SEV-ENTH" over & over after the game. Great stuff.
