I would have no problems signing Owings to a minor league contract as a 1st baseman.

hell i'd sign him as a pitcher. he wasn't bad last year and really, the bar for him being a passable starter is quite a bit lower than it is for a normal pitcher who can't hit for beans. don't like him much as a reliever though - he just wouldn't get enough PH opportunities to give his offensive ability much value.

So why isn't Daric Barton signed by the Cubs yet?

Because he's still on the A's unless they decide they don't want to offer him a contract.

Oops... I was thinking that list was of guys who were actually non-tender today. Not as possible candidates.

The Orioles will non-tender Luke Scott, tweets Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.

Somewhat interested. Possible 1B or a LH platoon mate for Soriano.

he can also throw banana chips at soriano in the locker room.

It would be more entertaining if he did it to Zambrano.

Zambrano breaking Luke Scott over his knee Bane-style is the sort of clubhouse shenanigans I could get behind.

If Andrew Miller gets non-tendered, he fits the Epstein profile. In fact, he signed him last season in Boston. Left-handed starter, former high 1st round draft pick, 26 years old (turns 27 in May). The only difference is that he has pretty much sucked at the major league level and was good but didn't dominate in the minors. That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Thed Epsoyer went after him for the right price.

#Cubs appear ready to burn midnight oil deciding whether to tender Koyie Hill a contract.

what the hell?

I figured Koyie had photos of Jim Hendry doing something unspeakable to a donut, but how did he get stuff on the new guys so fast? He's good...

According to MLBTR, Barton has been non tendered. If Fielder doesn't happen I'd be willing to revisit to possibility through trade.

Do you read what you write before you hit submit? Ever?

He doesn't read what the rest of us write. Why should his own posts be any different?

Tendered, non tendered same thing, only the opposite.

For clarification, Barton has been tendered a contract. He is not a FA.

Yes, I know. I mistakenly wrote non tendered instead of tendered. Otherwise I wouldn't have suggested the possibility of trading for him. The shame I feel is far greater than anything you can say or do.
