I'm upset about Forte, but not as devistated as when Cutler was out. For one Barber (if he can stay healthy) is not a bad second option...certainly better that Hanie. But also because the Bears might actually get some chances to run with opposing defenses not focusing their entire gameplan on stopping Forte.

Then again, with the QB and offensive line performance today, I think Barber is probably the best individual player that opposing teams should focus their gameplan around stopping.

we just lost to the freaking chiefs at home, i'm pretty sure we're not going to see our lame duck oc gameplan us into the playoffs now that he has the advantage of losing his best player.

it's time for you to move on to the next sport and see if your fraud mvp has learned how to shoot 40% in the playoffs yet.

Yeesh. I was talking about the defense's game plan against the Bears. The season may be hopeless, but they still have to play the games, so I'm going to focus on how they can somehow play better.

Also, Derrick Rose shot 49% from the field just 2 years ago. We'll see how he does when he doesnt have to shoulder the load for the entire offense (if they manage to get the right person).

Chiefs came into the game dead last in the NFL in sacks. Got 7 today. Nice

Yes, this is total ish. And add Caleb only threw the ball 23 times, he got sacked @ 25% of pass plays. Caleb held on to the ball or had no idea where to go many of those times. KC's offense is garbage, im not giving the bears defense a lot of credit. They played well but part of their domination was the opponent.

I posted that, and then I saw that the actual number of sacks they had coming into the game was [expletive] 13. How do you give up 7 sacks to a team that was averaging less than 1 per game this year?

This game shouldn't shut anybody up. People should be throwing a fit at the GM and management for putting together a horrible ass team.

This team has an old defense, no above average wideouts and one of the worst o-lines i've ever seen.

It wasn't a horrible ass team until they lost Cutler and Forte. The GM and management can't be blamed when you lose your starting QB, starting RB, and 1st round pick all in a matter of weeks. They were above average until all the injuries set in.

We haven't added an impact player through the draft in years. We have so many holes to fill in the offseason, I'm afraid this team will be mediocre for awhile as the aging players start to decline drastically.

What do we even draft first? I see the mocks all over the place.

None of that has to do with your comment of this being a "horrible ass team". For this year this team was above average team with Cutler and Forte and were starting to click before the Cutler injury.

Forte hasn't exactly been too great these last few games, although it's not entirely his fault either.

So despite currently being in a playoff spot, the Bears officially do not control their own destiny. If the Lions, Bears and Falcons win out, the Lions and Falcons will advance to the playoffs.

Bears will reconsider.McNabb per Moon Mullin

Definitely worth a shot. I was a Hanie supported. I was convinced he could easily do enough to beat the weaker teams on the schedule (KC, SEA, MIN). But he's shown that he can't. With Forte out, going to need more than a game manager, which Hanie hasn't even managed to do well either. I'm not at all convinced that McNabb will be any better. But I'm positive he won't be worse.

Is that even with the assumed Lions loss tonight? (24-10 Saints currently)

Yeah. Sorry I should have clarified that. The Lions have lost and the Bears still do not control their own destiny. In fact, if all 3 teams win next week (Lions against Minnesota, Falcons against Carolina), the Bears will relinquish their playoff spot they now hold to Detroit due to the Division record tiebreaker.

How would ATL have the tiebreaker over us again?

Although the Bears hold the tiebreaker over the Falcons, they lose out in a 3 team tiebreaker with Atlanta and Detroit. Because all 3 teams are tied at 7-5 right now, if all 3 won out the Bears would lose the tiebreaker.

The first step in a 3 team tiebreaker is to eliminate one team if 2 teams are in the same division. In that case, the Lions would win the tiebreaker over the Bears due to record against common teams. Then if there was only 1 playoff spot available, the Falcons would win by virtue of beating the Lions. But since there are 2 playoff spots at play, they would both make it, leaving the Bears on the outside.

I know it kind of sucks to go 2-1 against the teams were tied with and be on the outside looking in, especially when the Lions went 1-2 and the Falcons 1-1, but that's the way they draw it up.

Mid game good news:

ESPN's Adam Schefter and the Chicago Sun Times both report that the Bears will let offensive coordinator Mike Martz go when his contract expires after this season.

Martz has been connected to head-coaching vacancies at Arizona State and UCLA, suggesting he may already be plotting his future. His pass-heavy system hasn't worked out in Chicago with a line that struggles to pass protect and inconsistent play from the outside receivers. The departure of Martz wouldn't necessarily result in a systematic change for the Bears' offense, however. OL coach Mike Tice is the leading candidate to take over, and would likely keep most of the terminology and plays in place.

From an outsider's perspective, it seems it was working out pretty well with Jay Cutler at the helm. Obviously a switch from Cutler to Hanie won't work out well no matter what offensive system you're running.

Yeah. It's gotten better this year and given the lack of talent at WR and on the line, the results are respectable. That said, there are numerous things that bug fans about Martz. For one he randomly going through stretches where he decides we need to pass 45 times with 10 rushes in a close game. Makes no damn sense. He often outsmarts himself with extremely irrational play calls at inopportune times (end around to Earl Bennett with the NFC title on the line). His offense is apparently really difficult to grasp and takes awhile to master, making it difficult to plug a new player in there in a pinch. Finally, his style of offense is somewhat non traditional. Can't even count how many times we've seen Jay or Forte completely blown up because Cutler is not allowed to audible at the time. That's a big reason why Jay has to use timeouts at random spots in most games. It's also an offense that for some reason cannot use a pass catching tight end. Because of this we had to trade away a useful TE and are now lacking at that position when Martz is gone this offseason.

All that said, it is really rare to have a coach/coordinator whose fan base does not complain about. They all have their own little quirks that annoy the hell out of fans. I bet I could find a 49ers fan on the Internet that is complaining about the decisions Harbaugh is making. It's just part of the territory I guess.

Martz is a clown. In this modern day NFL who heard of an offense that doesn't allow audibles or ignores the tight end. Should have never been hired in the first place.

Yeah! That guy doesn't know anything.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not, but he might have been a bright mind for the greatest show on turf then years ago. But his schemes have become somewhat archaic in just a decade. What modern day offense does not allow a Quarterback to audible at the line of scrimmage, or ignores the TE as a staple of the modern day passing game? If you look at some of the best offenses in the league(Packers, Saints, Patriots) they have dynamic TE's that create mismatches in the middle of the field. Defenses don't have an answer for these guys. He's truly an awful fit as an offensive coordinator for any organization and has flamed out in three stops now.

Roy Williams should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell

Truly awful signing. And we all knew it. Any credit Angelo gets for the Barber signing is nullified by the Williams signing.

Posted

The Roy Williams signing was advocated by Martz, that said it's the GM's job to have final say, especially when it's clear a player was finished 4 years ago.

The worst part is not only Roy Williams sucking, but lost opportunity cost. Because of Roy Williams what other wide receiver that could contribute did we not pursue in FA or the draft?

The worst part is that he has continued to get playing time all year long despite sucking balls all season long. They didn't miss anybody in the draft, considering free agency was long after the draft.
