A few thoughts on the game:

1. Marion Barber played well. He's been non-existent for most of the season, but it would be nice to be able to count on him to spell Forte for a few series each game and run some dudes over.

2. Brian Urlacher was invisible today. He's been really good this year, but I was hoping he would step up and play well when one of the stars on the team went down with an injury.

3. I love watching line playing and Lance Louis is become one of my favorite Bears. His hustle play at the end of the 1st half was amazing.

4. Caleb Hanie will continue to get better. He thinks he's better than he actual is and that is dangerous in a Mike Martz offense. Next week vs the Chiefs should be a game where he an get his feet under him and get his first win as a starter.

First impressions

Oakland is terrible

Hanie is worse than I thought

The raiders are terrible

Marts is too risky

Caleb is dumb

Oakland sucks

I think your first impressions will wind up doubling as your lasting impressions, unfortunately.

Silver lining for today is that the meatballs, meatheads, and other meat-based fans will be much less likely to clamor for Hanie starting over Cutler when he's healthy.

Someone called for 3 Hanie INTs. Congrats? I guess :(

Anyway, I'm still operating under the assumption that we can win 3 games against this riff raff, even with Hanie. To heck with everything else.

We play Cutler in limited duty during the Packer game to knock the rust off, then go for it in our opening playoff game. Hopefully we catch someone by surprise and pick up a playoff win.

That's the plan, anyway.

Alright, I'm just gonna go ahead and assume the Giants lose in NO tomorrow.

Here are the standings after this week:

5. Chicago 7-4 (wins H2H tiebreak over ATL, wins common games tiebreaker over DET)

6. Atlanta 7-4 (wins H2H tiebreak over DET)

-----------------------------

7. Detroit 7-4

8. NY Giants 6-5

The Giants play GB next week too. If they go to 6-6, we can forget about them for a little bit. If that is the case, we are looking at 2 spots between 3 teams, and the Bears currently hold the tiebreaker over both of them.

Bears:

KC - W

@ DEN - L

SEA - W

@ GB - L

@ MIN - W

10-6

Lions:

@ NO - L

MIN - W

@ OAK - L

SD - W

@ GB - L

9-7

Falcons:

MIN - W

@ HOU - W (3rd string QB)

@ CAR - W

JAX - W

@ NO - L

TB - W

12-4

Obviously we have to play the games, but its looking like its gonna come down to Detroit and Chicago.

Teams are tied in the division, and tied in record vs. common games. Since there are only 2 non-common games for the Bears and Lions and Detroit lost both of theirs and the Bears won one already (PHI), we won't win that tiebreaker if we finish with the same record. So we either need to beat GB (and MIN) or hope DET loses to MIN (and GB) to be able to win the tiebreaker over them. At this point it looks like its gonna come down to the last week unless the Bears manage to win all 4 of their easier games.

Like I said earlier in the week, if the Bears had won this game, I think the Bears would have been a longshot to miss the playoffs. 8-3 and 9-3 with a win over KC, with NYG and Detroit losses in New Orleans would have meant the Bears would have been 2 games up on both teams and would have had tiebreakers over both. If NO takes care of business still, the Bears should be in good shape assuming Hanie gets even slightly better. He looked nervous as hell in the 1st half and actually was half decent in the 2nd before whatever the hell that last play was.

thank you, but lets face it, it wasnt hard to do. They guy came out talking about not being a "game manager" and wanting to throw the ball. It was his first game this season under a really complex offensive scheme, he was bound to have a rough game.

The thing I really like about Hanie (and its something I love about Cutler) is that he just doesn't care that it could be rough. Hanie will pick up this offense and have a very good game, likely even a string of games. The question is whether or not he will in time to save the season. The only other option is to play it safe and ram Forte/Barber down everyones throats. That would have been a better game plan for today, but you know Martz wont do that.

Kansas City. I wonder how quick Hanie can learn, I'm guessing pretty quick. At least I'm hoping.

Well, Barber was actually running it better than Forte today.

yea, they both were. i'm saying they should have been given more than 22 carries when they were averaging a combined 5.5 yard per rush. instead, hanie is chucking it 36 times at a 50% completion percentage.

Uh, SOME people are able to literally do the Lord's work with that type of percentage, you [expletive] heathen.

Look at the Chiefs at home against the Steelers D. It's just nothingness.

If we can't neuter these wayward dogs on our home turf, then I'm pouring myself wholly and completely into the Blackhawks and the newly-revived Bulls season.

Besides, N&G says I need to be more confident & cocky. WE WILL DESTROY THESE FOOLS.

Right. I understand him saying he's not a game manager. No one wants to be called a game manager. It's an insult. At the end of the day its Martz that called 40 passing plays for Hanie (36 passes, 5 Hanie runs, only 1 of them was a sneak on 4th down and designed for Hanie to run), and 22 runs. Obviously the Bears were trailing all game, so you would expect more throws, but the Bears trailed by one score the entire game until their TD, so there wasn't a necessity to throw the ball until late in the 4th.

I was the one before that suggested we surprise them by coming out throwing, and it looks like that's what happened. But at some point I expected them to go run heavy unless Hanie was having a ton of success throwing the ball. There were spurts of run calls but overall Hanie was expected to move the ball down the field. Matt Forte is our best offensive player by a large margin and should be the centerpiece of our offense with Jay out.

Dammit, Kansas City is 30 yards away from beating Pittsburgh with 35 seconds left. I think I want them to lose so they are further out of the playoff hunt next week. A win over a team like Pittsburgh is going to give them a ton of confidence that they can beat a Cutler-less Bears.

Well......lay your head down to sleep tonight, content and happy. KC is done.

or you could've said that was their big win for the year and next week would be no problem for the bears at home.

but really, next week will be no problem for the bears are home. palko is a joke.

After consecutive 3-pick performances, I would be really surprised if Palko got another start. The Bears should prepare for Orton.

If Hanie throws that right to Davis instead of floating it, I think he scores. There is a clear path right here with the second rusher on his heals trying to get back into position to guard against the screen. Hanie has an open throw. I know everyone is saying in hindsight that it was a stupid play call, but if it was executed correctly, I think it's a completely different game.

Also, Edwin Williams needs to make the block on this play to allow Davis to make the catch. If you watch this highlight, he lets the guy go right by him to make the play on the ball.

Means we probably would have to win at least 3 of our final 4 games, with 3 of those coming on the road and and one coming against 11-0 GB. And even with that, youd have to hope Detroit either finishes 2-3 or 3-2 with the 2 losses coming to GB and MIN.

Edit: this is all assuming ATL goes 4-1 against their cupcake schedule, which I guess isn't a given despite the games being @ HOU (3rd string QB), @ CAR, vs. JAX, @ NO, vs. TB.

Anything can happen, but I'm expecting to win next week.

BTW, who gets the thread start now that the Treymon magic has worn off?
