I know this doesn't deserve it's own thread - Castro WAR ?

But I have no idea where else I could post it...

Is there anywhere we could find what Castro's WAR was from August 1st on? I'd like to extrapolate that over an entire season just for kicks.

I'd imagine, at worst, we'd just need to know what his WAR was at that point...

1.64 fWAR in 53 games, 247 PA since August 1

Surely you know about Fangraphs

I haven't spent enough time on there, to be sure. The past few days, I've been messing with it more.

Extrapolated to this year's complete set of PAs, it's about 4.75 WAR. With the hopes that he can improve his fielding metrics, there's no reason to believe he can't be about a 5 WAR player as early as next year.

EDIT: Bah, answered already. I did the extrapolation, though!

Thanks, guys.

I had remembered sneaky posting Castro's slash stats after 8/1

It was .323/.370/.479/.849 (I think, at least)

16 walks and 7 HR

So I was curious as to how sexy his WAR was.

Castro next year is I think the most fun projection for the Cubs in 2012. There's a lot of variability going into it, and most importantly a ton of upside.

Can he improve his fielding (and was it as bad last year as the one-year UZRs claim)?

How much of his late power burst was real?

Can he keep racking up base hits at the rate he has for the last two years?

I think he's going to see just a little bit of a pullback in batting average. Despite the fact that he's done it two years in a row, I don't think he can maintain a .345 BABIP in the majors. That just seems like a bit much.

I expect him to make up for that with improved power and possibly the slightly improved IsoD that may come with that power.

That's what I keep thinking and why I pray they don't treat it as a throwaway year. If you improve the team to a respectable level while assuming 2010/11 production from Castro and he breaks out and plays like he did the last couple of months, the team could be better than just pretty good.

guessing castro's war is an exercise in futility as long as war is tied to that rng
