Me too. It's a long shot, but I'd love to see Aramis finish his career here for the right price/years. The guy has easily been my favorite long-term Cubs in my lifetime besides Sammy.

Hell, for me the entire 1984 team is my crush.

Yeah, if Ramirez was a middling earner (or a always go for the biggest offer guy) throughout his career I would assume he would do what he could to cash out.

He was making $6m at at 26 and has made at least $100m so far in his career. He's going to make a lot next year regardless of what kind of deal he signs, and he's given every indication that he's the type of guy that would like to a) play for the Cubs, b) play for a winning Cubs team, c) walk away when he's washed up, and d) accept a shorter term deal than the biggest one he could get.

Sure, the strictly financial decision is going to mean he's gone, but assuming Theo wants him around, I'm guessing he can sell Ramirez on trying to win big sometime in the next 2 years with the Cubs.

I assume this is Non-Edmonds category?

Funny side note, my buddy ran into him last night at the Cards game. He was being a total douche because he didn't want to deal with any fans, even though he considers himself a Cardinal still. What a turd.

I'm usually not completely dumb, but I can't tell if you're screwing with me or not. Given your history, I'll just assume you are and not post the picture of him pushing his kid out of the shot with my buddy.

It's peak vs career. Ramirez can never match Edmonds's peak. The classic lifelong heel seeing the light and turning good, helping lead those he fought against for so long to the promised land.

You've got a different promised land in mind than I do.

Exactly what? Exactly wrong. If they won the WS maybe you could make a case, but Edmonds already went right back to being the Cardinal douche everybody knew he was.

I definitely want Jackson to be the everyday CFer from day 1.

I think you can do something like

CF Jackson

SS Castro

FA 1b

RF Byrd

LF Soriano

3b Platoon (Baker plus a veteran FA on a short-term deal?)

C Soto

2b Barney

Rotation of Garza/Dempster/FA pitcher/Wells/Cashner with at least one more veteran FA to back up Cashner if he doesn't work out or his arm gets tired.

That team looks .500ish to me, with the chance to make the playoffs with good health and good breaks. Of course, that depends a lot on who the FA 1b is.

I know the Cubs are going to want to see if Brett can handle the leadoff role to start his career, but I still don't love the idea.

Just toying around with the FA lists (mlbtr and cots), and if the Cubs opt against the big splash (FA or trade), I wouldn't mind going for say, Kelly Johnson, Jason Kubel, Kevin Kouzmanoff, and say, a Josh Willingham (or Michael Cuddyer) to fill out a lineup. There's positives and negatives to both approaches (big splash, or pieces of the puzzle), but a lineup of say,

Brett Jackson, CF

Starlin Castro, SS

Josh Willingham, 1st

Jason Kubel, RF

Geovany Soto, C

Kelly Johnson, 2nd

Alfonso Soriano, LF

Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3rd

Doesn't look that bad to me. It's not exciting, that's for sure. We'd probably have to trim off Marlon Byrd's contract. It wouldn't tie us down long-term like a big splash move and might provide a more competitive offensive squad, while saving enough money to go after pitching upgrades.

Anyhow, just a thought.

More what? More pretending Jim Edmonds did more than play really well for a few months? If you are going to keep pretending he was a better Cub than Ramirez has been, fine. But that's idiotic.

I seriously can't believe you're taking bait this hard and this badly. It wasn't meant for posters like you, that's for sure.

Are you reverse trolling or something?

Share. Why would you think anyone wouldn't want to see ridiculous pictures of Edmonds?

I can't blame the guy. It has to get irritating.

Yea... If I were a pro-athlete, I gotta admit, I'd probably treat the fans like [expletive].

There was a story where Jay Cutler was taking a piss at some club, and some guy (the guy who told the story on the radio himself) went up to him and said to him something to the effect of, "Oh my God, Jay! I went to school with you at Vandy! We had xxx class together."

Cutler just looked up at the ceiling and said, "DON'T CARE!"

That's pretty much what I would do.
