Levine is seemingly reporting as fact right now that getting Hoyer over won't be an issue because of the Moorad/Byrnes relationship.

Says it's win/win for everybody... Hoyer wants to get into the midwest, where his wife is from.

Is saying the Hoyer thing is going to happen.

Am I the only one who's far more interested in learning the compensation than with hearing and reading media guys differently wording what we've know for several days?

Yes.

Yes. That's a weird thing. You are weird.

All he said on compensation is he knows it's not gonna be Szczur, McNutt, or Jackson.

And it's definitely minor leaguers.

Also no (presumably - additional) money going back.

I am too. While I'm extremely excited that Theo's move to Chicago is more official now and I love hearing about it, I really want to know what we gave up to get him.

Why? It's been pretty much a given for a few weeks that Theo was coming and that Hoyer or Byrnes for a few days. What hasn't been clear is what we'll be sending over.

That's really good news.

The Score is butthurt that they are getting scooped on all this, and are now ripping Kaplan for "Not saying anything different but framing it in a different way" and have used that as a chance to launch into a rant about ... Crane Kenney.

Changing the station.

You'd have to ask yourself that. You just are.

I want to go to the Cubby bear, throw down a few and wait for the presser. This is an awesome day!

A Bloody to start it off.

Although, my place of choice is Murphy's. Cubby Bear is lame.

I said yesterday I wouldn't be listening to the Score at all today after that DeLuca thing got posted. You shouldn't either.

Listen to Waddle and Silvy.

Aside from some of this years picks, who they couldn't take anyway, there's nobody else I'd really be devestated over losing. I don't think we should have to give up any top guys but if that's what it takes, so be it. He didn't mention Vitters though. Beliveau either.

But there's only a 37% chance of it.

So perhaps this Lackey speculation has legs? If we are not giving up to prospects and no cash, it could go down that way. If not, Ricketts is just a mad pimp. Edited by Hollandsworth's mug

I, of course and as always, could be very wrong, but my guess is that all this means the Cubs will not be major players for Fielder or Pujols.

It just doesn't seem like the Epstein/Moyer style to do that sort of deal so shortly after taking over. I keep coming back to the due diligence the Red Sox did on Crawford, hiring a PI to follow him months before he became a free agent. Epstein may have had some time to think about the Cubs, but it can't have been that much time.

My guess is that their immediate offseason focus is pitching. Trying to make two or three viable MLB starters appear in one offseason is no easy task and may take up most of the available resources.

Why would you assume Theo hasn't already done due diligence on these guys on behalf of the Sox?

Didn't they just say that Kenney is Kaplan's source, or was I not paying attention enough?

If we're not giving up cash, how are we paying Lackey to play for SD?

It's really hard to come up with a national sports media figure like Gammons who is such a completely unabashed fanboy of one particular team. I guess Bill Simmons, but he came up through blogs and "new media" where you're not required to be objective. There's ex-players in the media who unabashedly cheer for their former teams, like Michael Irvin and Joe Theisman, but that's different from a hard beat reporter that came up through the journalism ranks. Maybe Beano Cook with Notre Dame.
