“Theo does go into the office every day,’’ acknowledged Lucchino. “But Ben Cherington’’ - Epstein’s aide-de-camp, and the consensus favorite to take over - “is playing a larger role than he has in the past.’’

Most employees are walked to their car when they agree to go work elsewhere. Any worries about Epstein acting as a double agent?

“We haven’t encountered problems like that in light of the way we’ve been operating,’’ said Lucchino.

I ask you, who WOULDN'T want to work in this kind of work environment?

A recent Score update said that Theo is rumored to have arrived in town.

Just listened to a 670 scoreboard update and no mention of Epstein being in town already. I'm pretty sure they'd be repeating that each update if they had it.

I'll take Lauras word for it. Unless Kyle changes his post to something I want to hear.

I can't believe this is actually happening. I'm in awe of Rickett's right now. Damn, he just gets it.

The Red Sox and Cubs are making progress and the sides could announce a deal by tomorrow, according to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. Commissioner Bud Selig may allow the teams to make an announcement during the World Series so they can proceed with their offseason planning. The Red Sox are optimistic about reaching a settlement soon.

Assuming the deals done and the paperworks signed, sealed, and deleivered, why would they have to wait until they make the announcement before they get to work on the planning?

They don't. I just the writer was just writing without thinking that one through.

In Epstein We Trust. Have no problem with Ryno since we will have an organizational philosophy in which everyone will play along. Ryno under Hendry was a different ballgame. With Ryno and Theo on board, and I'm assuming this is basically all but done at this point, Chicago media must be having a wet dream.

Yeah, I trust Theo knows what he's doing with whoever he hires as a manager. It's going to be a helluva Cubs convention this year! CAN"T WAIT!

I just moved to the St. Louis area on Saturday. Still "living" in a hotel. Crazy week. Dirty Birds everywhere.

As long as the organization has established standards on things like pitch counts, the manager is basically just the face of the clubhouse who gives interviews. Edited by Elrhino

Not sure how Rosenbloom is employed. There is no question many of us here on this board can write more insightful columns compared to this gas bag.

Anyway, I was reading the forums at SOSH and there is speculation that perhaps, (again, perhaps) that Theo has already made his first move. Basically, the Pads have shown interest in Lackey. There could be a scenario that Theo and the Cubs will absorb part of Lackey's contract and send him to SD. By doing this, the Cubs do not have to send two top shelf prospects to Boston.

It's no secret Luchino and Henry want Lackey gone. If this is the case, it's not too far fetched that the deal might go down that way.

Hoyer (for the Cubs picking up some salary for Lackey) then comes here as GM and everyone is happy.

Speculation or supposed rumor?

Bigggggg difference.

Message board speculation = a b2b trade proposal

Supposed rumor = big bird

Speculation. However, Boston's management's desire is very strong to move Lackey and the Pads do have interest.

B2Bs eyes just shot wide open and he burst out of bed not knowing why.

In all seriousness, if we were to absorb most of Lackeys contract, I'd just as soon see what he can do for us. Would taking on 45+ mil for a guy who won't pitch for us really be a better option than giving them McNutt and a lower level guy? I'm going to say no on that.

in 2 days gammons will say something about how the cubs are going to be awesome with theo and then everyone will love him again

people loved gammons?

There was a time when the Cubs were rated as the best, or close to the best minor league system (before Baylor/Baker et al destroyed the thing), and Peter used to regularly praise the up and coming Cubs organization. I loved him then.

Rosenbloom's columns on the Epstein stuff is ridiculous. But, I do find his rants on the Bears to be entertaining and not too far off.
