Yes, that seems reasonable to me.

As for the board being "inane opinion fodder," well......that's just message boards being message boards.

absolutely. & if it weren't so, no one would post.

it's just that after so long, once the speculation has even grown weary with mounting ghosts of reports mirroring each other in the dark, [expletive] gets old, is all.

i'll still read it all, continuing to refresh after every beautiful roberto bolano chapter of the savage detectives.

"The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sage thicket. "Vámonos, amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintcraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.

The Theo/anarchy bridge is the one Red Sox fans seem to be wanting to build, acting like the Cubs can't back out now without hell breaking loose. I was just pointing out that I don't think backing out would hurt us at all, whereas it would cause some legit trouble for the Red Sox.

Both sides come out uncomfortable but not destroyed by backing out now. The whole "One side or the other has all the leverage" stuff is just coming from meathead fanbois.

Yeah, both sides have something to lose and little to gain if this falls apart. It is in the interests of both parties that this work out.

And it needs to work itself out soon, I'm sick of being held hostage by my computer.

Just give them two of JJax/Vitters/Castillo/Flaherty/Lake/McNutt and let's call it a day already.

No reason to give into anything for a couple days. See if the Red Sox cave, and if they don't, then finally settle on a couple of those guys. Drag this on as long as possible though and do everything you can to not lose a top 10-20 prospect.

I'd send them JJax, Castillo and Flaherty right now if that's all they wanted.

If it came down to it I wonder if Selig would mediate.

I also wonder if the negotiations are as acrimonious as they seem to be to many of us. Maybe it's done and they are just waiting to announce.

I certainly wouldn't allow them anywhere near McNutt.

MLB doesn't want this to step on the LCS, so Tuesday is the day for an announcement. They have the luxury of dragging this out until then.

Didn't the White Sox announce the Robin Ventura hiring during the playoffs? I honestly don't think MLB cares when it's announced.

Yep. Tuesday's been the day I've been expecting all along. That's why we might as well use all the time until then to try to get Boston to lower their demands.

I insist the Cubs are referred to as "Theo Epstein's Cubs" in all game thread titles next season.

Nothing can be announced during the World Series. The rest of the playoffs it doesn't matter. The MLB was livid when ARod's extension was announced during the WS and since then I believe its a rule that nothing can get announced.

Would it really matter if it just waited until after the World Series?

Just more garbage, sounds like. Bunch of twitter junk, Boston people saying we're crazy, yada yada.

Everyone calling each other an idiot. You know, par for the course in this godforsaken world of ours.

The thing that angers me about the Red Sox fans is that they are trashing on the Cubs system like its the worst system in the MLB, and despite the lack of MLB ready prospects and a disappointing year from a lot of pitching prospects, it's definitely not. It's not in the upper half but if you look hard enough they will be able to find 2 prospects with mlb upside that we are willing to part with.

It is a longstanding custom in all major sports that you don't purposefully step on your marquee events. No one ever accused the White Sox of being a model franchise.

Never mind that a White Sox event doesn't even register outside of Chicago. MLB is closely monitoring these negotiations and has no doubt expressed its desire to see any announcement made at a time that is advantageous to the league as a whole.

Well organizational meetings happen right after the WS don't they? I guess it could wait until after, but every extra day we have for Theo to get started is to our advantage. He needs time to build his player database, scout potential hires for his baseball opps, learn the Cubs system inside and out, decide what to do with Quade and if they get rid of him, find the next manager. There's just too much to do right now to be comfortable with waiting another 7-10 days for this to get resolved.

Some of that sounds like the kind of stuff he can be doing right now while negotiations are happening.

I second this.

RT @thekapman: I am hearing that if and when the Theo deal gets done he is bringing Josh Byrnes with him. Byrnes is former Epstein aid now with Padres.

Kraplan, but this is good news.

RT @PeteAbe: AL source: The talks between the #RedSox and #Cubs are: "business-like, civil and moving forward over the weekend.”

That's good if true.

Still think this gets done.

Really, I'm just trying to get to 100
