As has been said, WE WILL HAVE A REAL ORGANIZATION.

Thank you Mr. Ricketts. What safari?

clearly the "safari" was a trip spent with Bill James and Mr Beane to discuss how Mr Ricketts could change the world.

It worked.

Don't get too giddy guys. The guy hasn't done jack [expletive] yet. Let's not grab our collective [expletive] just yet.

He hired a highly qualified person with a track record of success that prescribes to advanced statistics to run the baseball opps department. That's all he needed to really do on the baseball side, other then opening up the purse strings. Now its said he is going to be hands off. So yeah, he did a ton.

I realize you also might be sarcastic.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet, but I was thinking about this earlier today.

Before the Hendry firing and 2011 draft, there was a lot of discussion about Ricketts taking a couple of seasons to familiarize himself with day-to-day operations of the organizations before making any big moves. People were scoffing at the improvements to the Wrigley restrooms when there were no improvements to be seen on the field; worrying about the "fanboy" owner meddling with things he knew nothing about.

But now, looking back, it seems as though he knew exactly which steps to take to get us here. No matter how talented the front office, there are still fundamental tools needed to be successful. The foundations laid since the Ricketts took ownership (new spring training complex, Dominican baseball academy, Wrigley renovations, investing in the farm system) are what really make the Cubs GM position so appealing. Would a high-profile GM such as Epstein be interested in the job otherwise?

Maybe my man-crush for Tom is clouding my judgement, but I don't know if an Epstein-caliber hire could have been made in 2009.

You'll have to forgive Cubs fans for not recognizing competent team management when they see it. How would we recognize it before?

Again, what has he done so far? Nothing. Until he does There's reason to give the guy kudos. Let's just see what happens.

lenandbob Len and Bob

Big question is will Theo play lead guitar w/BB on rhythm, or vice versa?

You know Len is [expletive] geeked about this.

Should I read Baseball Between the Numbers or The Book - Playing the Percentages in Baseball?

EDIT - Or maybe The Extra 2%?

This may very well turn out to be the saddest day of my life.

The price of CUBS tickets is going to skyrocket, effectively freezing me out and leaving me sitting in the VWR scratching my head. My only real chance to see a CUBS game in person will be to meet up with my nephew in Atlanta for the CUBS series over the 4th of July with a THI of 112 !!! Sitting home watching them on TV won't be much of a consolation either, since the game threads will be up in the hundreds of pages. It will become impossible to read the whole thread and actually watch the game, too. Let alone adding in any PBP schtick. Then, come Labor Day, when the CUBS have clinched the division, you know the Good Lord is going to call me home. [sigh]

p.s. Only 124 more days 'til pitchers and catchers report !

That p.s. just gave me visions of pictures of Theo overseeing a spring training practice like a bauce.
