well, 0-2 this weekend. looking for another 0fer tomorrow between the bears and fantasy.

0-1-1 that is.

I hate shootouts. I feel like we win like 25% of them despite it basically being a crapshoot

6-5 last year, 9-6 in 2009-2010, and 4-7 in 2008-2009.

Totals 19-19 after tonight.

I hate you.

I said it feels like 25%...I'm a natural pessimist :)

Well that was kind of sucky last night, but we only had a 1 goal lead, and we still got a point out of the deal.

Overall I've been seeing less of those horrible giveaways right near our own goal, which has been good. Although admittedly I haven't been watching every minute.

Too early yet for me to draw conclusions about this Hawks team.

Because of excessive traveling and going to the game on Thursday, I literally haven't seen a second of Hawks on TV so far this year. And I'm the kind of person who will drop what they are doing to watch every game for the most part.

Too many days between games. This is ridiculous. Not like the Leafs having an entire week off last week, but close.

Agreed.

Didn't they have way too few rest days early last season?

They did. I believe the Hawks had played by far the most games through November of any team.

From a team-building/chemistry standpoint, I think all the rest days are good. It helps the team learn how each other plays, give more practice time, and hopefully stay healthy as they build into mid-season form. In particular, I think it's really good for Patrick Sharp since he missed Training Camp with his emergency appendectomy.

Totally unrelated... I really have liked what I've seen from Kruger in the past couple of games. He hasn't made any mistakes and there have been some really nice plays and passes -- if he weren't playing with John Scott and Jamal Mayers, he might be getting some nice assists. I wouldn't mind seeing a 4th line of Stalberg-Kruger-Mayers, actually. Stalberg creates a lot of mismatches with his speed and skating, Mayers creates a lot of space and with Kruger's passing... that line could easily make life very difficult for other 4th lines.

Smith might also be able to make Kruger look better too. Anyone is better than Scott of course but Smith seems like he has better instincts than Stalberg.

The Hawks website doesn't say, but I would hope this is a rehab assignment of sorts. Get a few games in over there, get his legs back and get back with the team maybe Saturday at home?

That's what I'm hoping for as well, but who knows?

That's likely the case. They are pretty high on Smith. I suppose it could also be that they are sufficiently happy with Kruger at the moment that Smith is redundant... or not. I think that fairly soon, Smith, Pirri, Kruger and Morin will all be pushing for time in Chicago with their play (one of the 4 was always going to be in Chicago).

I've been thinking on a Smith-Kruger-Mayers line, and for a lot of teams, that's a really solid third line.

Which makes me think that among the Carcillo/Brunette/Stalberg trifecta, someone's going to get traded. I think it'll be Stalberg -- he's cheap, fast, and doesn't have a real spot on this time. On the bright side, with all the youth and the 23 man roster full every night, there's a lot of depth to cover for injuries. In hockey, as we saw over the past two years, depth is critical.

you're gonna make a great dad someday, so encouraging and to the point. THIS is a guy who is mentally prepared to have children.

Wow Keith, really?

That is a Duncan Keith special

For those that didn't see it Duncan Keith was carrying the puck out of the Hawks zone and just collapsed under his own weight and gave up the puck, still in the Hawks zone, and was quickly taken by the Coyotes and converted into an easy goal.
