I really dislike the home win streak record the Wings just "tied"....just off the top of my head I can think of 4 games in that streak that they won in either OT or a shootout

they also won three games with Joey MacDonald in net, which more than balances things out

MacDonald should have gotten assists on the first 2 Philly goals last night:)

Detroit traded Commodore to Tampa for a conditional 7th rounder. Listening to Sportsnet.ca's trade deadline live broadcast multiple "experts" are most interested with what the Blackhawks will do, and most teams seem to think they aren't going to do anything.

Don't mean to be knee jerk, but I can't fathom doing nothing. Good job by Detroit to unload Commodore.

I was happy to have him when he wanted to wear number 64...after he ended up being 20something, I was hoping he would be a healthy scratch every game

San Jose has several games in hand...but they are currently 7th and really struggling. The Kings who probably made the biggest splash close to the deadline are currently 9th. I know the Hawks are struggling but it seems really contagious right now.

I'll admit that I haven't paid the closest attention to this season but I had no idea that the Blues were really good. When did that happen?

Ken Hitchcock is the master at the quick turnaround.

It's my own ignorance, yes, but for a new generation of hockey metrics to take hold, they'll have to be more relatable to the average fan. Like this one, which could not be simpler: the number of sex offenders near the arena has turned out to be an excellent indicator of team success.

The brainchild of Megalodon at Battle of California, I give you SONA. ("Sex offenders near arena." See? Intuitive is good!) By combing a national sex offender database, he put together a count of registered sex offenders living within 1.5 miles of every American NHL arena. That was in December. Revisiting it now, with less than a month to go in the regular season, the results are stunning: of the six teams surrounded by the most rapists and perverts, five are in the top six in the NHL points race.

in case you forgot how obscenely good Sidney Crosby is

(consecutive shifts!)

he's awesome. and even though i hate the penguins, hockey is better for having players like him on the ice. (side note though, these weren't consecutive shifts... first one was midway through the second period and second one - the goal - was in the third period)

anyway, zidlicky (defender who gets abused twice) is [expletive] terrible. so comical that lamoriello gave up anything of value to take on zidlicky's piss poor defense and lousy contract.

Western conference playoff race is starting to get interesting. 6 teams are fighting for the last 3 playoff spots. There's the Pacific Division champion, which will be the 3 seed. San Jose, Dallas, Phoenix and Los Angeles are separated by 2 points. The 3 teams that lose that will then compete with Calgary and Colorado for the 7th and 8th seeds. Those 5 teams are separated by 2 points as well.

Should be in interesting week!

Okay...put 3 mins of thought into this.

Canucks over Kings in 6...I want to pick the Kings, but can't

Blues over Sharks in 7...Since the Sharks will not be choking, I wonder if they will actually play well

Hawks over Coyotes in 7....I am assuming Toews comes back sometime

Preds over Wings in 6....Wings have been plain flat since all their players have been healthy

Rangers over Sens in 6....Sens can score

Boston over Caps in 7...Caps in similar spot as Sharks.

Devils over Panthers in 5...I think the Devils have a good shot of making the ECF

Pens over Flyers in 6...I really like the Pens to go all the way

Canucks over Hawks in 7...this would be great for the 3rd straight year

Preds over the Blues in 7...would be a great series no one would watch

Devils over the Rangers in 6

Pens over the Bruins in 5

Canucks over the Preds

Pens over the Devils

Totally forgot the NHL re-seeds.

I like the Pens to win it all too. I think their biggest challenge will be getting out of the east.

I really do not like the Western Conference at all. Not one team is sticking out to me as much as the Pens, Flyers and Bruins are in the East.

The Canucks have been on fire of late, and who knows how effective the Blackhawks will be or if Toews can even go. The Wings should be better than they are, and the Blues just kind of coasted at the end.

Anybody from the Central plus the Canucks should be able to give the East winner all they can handle, though.

I can't pick against the Kings so...

Kings over Canucks in 7

Blues over Sharks in 6

Hawks over Coyotes in 5

Wings over Preds in 7

Rangers over Sens in 4

Bruins over Caps in 5

Devils over Panthers in 6

Pens over Flyers in 7

The Blues are the matchup my head wanted in round 1 when it was between them and Vancouver, so I think we COULD take them if we get to round 2. I honestly think the Kings/Canucks matchup is going to be the most exciting series out west (the series 2 years ago was great and there's a BIT of a rivalry brewing, at least from the Kings side), although I doubt anything tops the Pens/Flyers series overall. The Kings have been pretty excellent since getting Carter, and he should be good to go for game 1.

The officiating in this Detroit-Nashville game is absolutely atrocious. Let 'em play for Christ's sake.

And Detroit is really getting the shaft, by the way.
