In theory I don't mind that move because like I said, we had a ton of options that Angelo hand picked for us. Wright was a 3rd rounder, Steltz was a 4th rounder, Conte a 4th rounder. We traded a developing LB for another safety, and then spent money on another safety.

 

The issue is, for the most part the safeties kind of all suck except Harris.

Sure but like someone pointed out Manning had 1 good year out of 5, and you had Conte who is a rookie and developing, Steltz who ihad 2 years in the league and was developing too. If you are Angelo and you believe in the guys you drafted, it makes sense to let Manning go.

Steve Smith is fast. Tillman is not. He'd get torched just as bad. He's good at covering big guys.

Yeah, but you have to be able to judge that the other safeties you've acquired are good. And we were "lucky" to get Merriweather too; it could have been Steltz and Wright out there the last few weeks. (BTW, Conte was a 3rd rounder, though a bad pick imo.)

 

And as raw said, it'd be one thing if they let Manning go and spent money on OL and WR. They didn't.
