Say it ain't so...

Well, today the news came down that Old Style will no longer be served at Wrigley Field following the season. Coors Light will replace Old Style as the alternative to the evil beer from St. Louis.

But are the rumors true?

We hadn't heard from Pabst as of Friday morning, but the Cubs said they would like to see their partnership with Old Style continue.

What I don't understand is why Pabst would want to pull out of this deal, but I guess I don't know what all is involved in their partnership. They are selling mass quantities of a cheap beer that very few people would drink otherwise. How can that not be profitable?

There have been a host of articles and blog posts concerning that one line from the new overseers of Old Style, but nowhere did I read that the Old Style taps would be pulled from the park - merely that the close-knit marketing partnership between the Cubs/Old Style/WGN-720 would be dissolved.

First they came for higher ticket prices,

But I did not speak up for I could buy from scalpers.

Then they came for the Budweiser house,

But I did not speak up for I do not drink swill.

Then they came for the troughs,

But I did not speak up for my bladder is large.

Now they've come for the Old Style

I thought that's what Busch Light is for.

Busch Light, Old Style, PBR and Keystone are all battling it out for dominance in the shallow gene pool market.

You can go straight to hell for lumping PBR in there

Yeah man, PBR is an award winning american lager.

You don't have to be hipster to like PBR. The head brewmaster at Bells calls PBR the best mass produced lager beer in America.

Hipsters drink it ironically, beer lovers drink it because it's good.

It's just by far the best of the cheapies and doesn't deserve to be equated to the Busch Lites of the world.

He forgot about the Beast, but he was right to lump PBR in there. The best shitty beer is still shitty beer. He also forgot Schlitz and High Life. And, of course, Natty Ice.
