Amazing. Told the Rangers were interested in Marmol but the Cubs turned them down.

I hope it was a really crappy offer, otherwise ugh.

I hope so too, the Cubs have done a brilliant job of eroding my interest in the team.

Please do something.

If it was the Rangers then the offer almost certainly included the Cubs eating a lot of salary.

I dont know. At somepoint we have to stop making excuses for Hendry whether its our opinions about too much salary or not the right players in return. Others teams in the last couple of days have gotten very solid returns on their major league talent Hendry has made one meaningless trade and on this 90 plus loss team. This one is on him.

So if the Rangers didn't make a very strong offer or if they demanded we pay Marmol's entire salary, Hendry should have taken the deal anyway because other teams are making trades? I'm in favor of dealing Marmol, but only if it makes the organization better, not simply because I want to see players traded.

I agree that we can't really make any conclusions based on that small amount of information. If the Rangers made a low-ball offer then I'm with Hendry on rejecting it. On the other hand, if the Rangers expressed interest and Hendry just told them "he isn't available", then I will grab a torch and lead the march.

Just talked to my buddy, and hes got a friend who works inside the rangers system as a pro scout(i think). He told me Texas offered Low A 3B and High A Pitcher.

I would be furious if your buddy was talking about Christian Villanueva and Justin Grimm.

I would be too. But he didnt give him any specific names.

He didn't, in fairness. Regardless, it's annoying to see the trade deadline go with the Cubs only trading away Fukudome and attempting to trade Wood, but getting vetoed.

No kidding. This blindly oblivious mindset of "other teams made deals, so the Cubs should be able to make the same deals, hurdurdur" is getting silly.

Can someone explain to me how Rich Harden was going to net Lars Andersen, yet even if we ate all of Zambranos salary we weren't likely to get as good of a return? Rich Harden is awful, why do our players have such little respect?

Because the Cubs aren't going to trade away a starting pitcher right now.

I get that, but last year we didn't get a Lars Andersen back for Ted Lilly. Lilly is a lot better than what's left of Rich Harden.

There's less distance between Lars Andersen and Blake DeWitt than you realize.

Lars Anderson hasn't been all that good since 2008. He had a good maybe 50 PAs at some level last year, but otherwise he's been uninspiring as a corner bat.

And weirdly enough the difference is in DeWitt's favor.
