Well that certainly looks like an ugly return.

It's not mind-blowing, but I don't think that's too far off for 2 months of Kosuke. A pen arm close to the big leagues and a toolsy DR OF who has K issues but still has time to work it out.

I have a bad feeling this will be for 2 players in the 15-20 range for the tribe or the dreaded "players to be named".

I can't imagine Kosuke's value will be any higher than 2 players in the 15-20 range. I bet it will be lower than that, but I would be pretty happy to get 2 decent prospects back.

This may be a dumb question on my part and I offer my apologies in advance...but it bothers me that instead of getting one top 10 guy in a trade like this we seem to settle for two guys in the 15-20 range. Maybe I'm a fool but I would much rather get one guy with a good chance at reaching his projections than two guys with a lesser chance.

I probably would too depending on the situation and how close the rankings were, but that doesn't seem to be a choice that's usually given for a marginal player like Fukudome. Quantity is better than nothing.

One of the prospects might be Jason Knapp. He's out for the season with a shoulder injury but had a high upside. It could be buying low in the ultimate high risk/high reward scenario.

[EDIT]: Never mind. That's what I get for not refreshing.

No more Fuku-copter 8-(

Colvin isn't exactly tearing up AAA but it's probably time to give the guy a position for the rest of the year to see what he can do going into 2012.

I don't know how those two rate in the Indians organization, other than not in BA's top ten, but Abreau is listed as having the best OF arm in the organization. I don't know if he can hit what he aims at, but evidently he's got a strong arm.

Abreu must be quite the athlete. Already this year he has 12 HR, 19 SB, 5 3B, and a great arm? So a guy with some definite upside but very unlikely to reach it with that BB/K ratio.

Everyone would. Unfortunately, the other teams would rather keep the one good guy.

one has to be realistic about fukudome, he's a corner OF who doesn't have much power, is declining defensively and is paid too much to be offered arbitration after the season. he's a two month rental, one that isn't even likely to be worth one win in his indians career, and that's it. really you're only going to get fringy prospects for a guy like that.

plus if they're only kicking in half of fukudome's remaining money and they use the leftover $2m or whatever to sign maples, then that should certainly be taken into account.

I don't really see the point of this trade. Is it solely to free up a spot for Colvin? No money savings, poor prospects in return. What exactly is the upside? Why not just keep Kosuke or maybe shop him elsewhere?

The exact details haven't come out on the money(or the players for that matter) yet. Kosuke doesn't really have a lot of suitors, and he's a FA with no hope of draft compensation after the year. Sending him to a playoff chase for two months does him a favor, and gives the team a little value in return. The only potential downside is somehow he hates the Cubs for trading him and doesn't want to re-sign with them, but a) Kosuke isn't that good to worry about it and b) that doesn't fit with Kosuke's personality and quotes on the matter to this point.

That's actually whay I'd expect Cleveland giving up for a two month rental; and knowing he won't resign too. Although I would like to get Barns or McFarland two intriguing lefties

(a) one person on an internet message board says that we acquired prospects who don't look that good.

(b) where has it been reported that the cubs are paying his full salary?

Abreu is interesting enough to make this deal IMO even if 95% of the time we'll have forgotten about him in 2 years. If he cuts that strikeout down from 30 to 22-23 he would be a nice player.

And while it's likely the Cubs paid some of his contract they probably didn't pay all of it so they might still have some savings from the deal.

What's Kosuke going to do for us? Move us from the #2 to #3 pick next year?
