Szczur grounds out 5-3 on the first pitch.

he can really run... that looked pretty routine and he was probably out by less than a step.

also, arodys vizcaino has some nasty stuff.

And it's annoying the announcers can't pronounce Szczur's name.
The same announcers who twice said that Lee is in the Cub' organization.

Haha, I caught that too.

Also, it was tiring hearing Aaron Boone thump his chest over Southern Cal baseball when they haven't made the NCAA tournament since 2005.

It appears Willson Contreras has lost his starting 3B job at Boise to 36th rounder Travis Garcia. I'd like to see Contreras sent down to Mesa so he can get actual at bats if this is going to remain the case.

Wow. I had high hopes for him in Boise this year. I guess he wasn't quite ready for it, although I don't know if there's room in Arizona with Geiger.

hoilman seems to have extreme patience (24 bb, 31 k) and pretty good power so he's a good candidate to move up to peoria, but i don't know what they'd do with cuneo/rohan/jones.

in other news, blair springfield was moved up to boise.

Willengton Cruz should be done. Another solid outing and he had his longest stateside outing too: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.

Cruz, Liria and Peralta have really looked good thus far.

Might work if they flip flop Geiger and Contreras (and Geiger gets playing time). I just don't like someone as young and talented as Contreras riding the bench in the low minors for an organizational guy.

Stop using the term organizational guy freely based on draft slot. Tell me you are experienced being in the hot box trying to hit 90 plus and our conversation continues, and to the rest of you critics, show some respect

Well, I have faced 90 mph fastballs but I don't see how my experience there has any bearing on this conversation. I mean, considering Aaron Boone's "expert" analysis in today's Futures Game (amongst a whole host of horrible MLB color commentators), playing experience sure isn't any sort of requisite for meaningful analysis.

It isn't a leap of faith to assume a guy drafted in the 36th round at the position of "utility" from Martin Methodist is going to be an organizational guy.

ETA: I assume hot box is just batter's box and not pro baseball. I clearly didn't play pro baseball.

We understand, playing professional baseball is hard. That doesn't mean that many people here haven't spent hundreds or thousands of hours playing baseball, reading about baseball, and generally keeping informed about baseball. To belittle someone's opinion because they didn't get the opportunity to take their at bats against pro pitchers is lunacy.

To the point, organizational filler is exactly the word for Garcia. Why would anyone think otherwise? He was taken in the 36th round as a 22 year old from a tiny school and signed quickly. At 5-10, 190 lbs he's smaller than me and he's a 3B. And he started 2 for 13 at Mesa before his promotion. Now I hope more than anything Garcia turns out to be the next Mike Schmidt, but that doesn't preclude us from making reasonable evaluations with the information we have on hand.

uh look pal, the guy was an NAIA all-american honorable mention, that doesn't sound like organizational filler to me.

Joe Morgan...'nuff said.

every kid afforded the opportunity to play pro ball does not feel they don't have a chance

You're probably right, but that's not the reality of the world. The superior talent is always going to be given priority based solely on their greater likelihood to succeed.

I should hope so but that doesn't mean much when we're discussing each of these players' abilities and chances to reach the big leagues.

gotta like what a lot of the azl cubs have been doing at the plate. easterling is 3-4 tonight and is hitting .500, amaya 2-4 with a double (.375 average), marco hernandez 3-3 (.385 average), geiger 2-4 (.385 average), zapata 1-3 with a walk (.333 average). the only guy who isn't really hitting much is the donger, who's hitting .174 with a wretched 15 K's against 0 BB in 11 games.

Raisin isn't going to Garcia's games, heckling him and telling him as such, so I guess I don't understand.
