Starling Peralta got the start for Peoria, Alberto Cabrera for Iowa. Guess Jokisch and Struck will go tomorrow.

Peralta: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K thus far. :) Hopefully THISisTHEyear09 is at the game.

Not sure if it's a misprint, but Iowa is listed with Cabrera pitching thru MILB right now.......

He was listed all day on MiLB but Bruce said Struck was starting today so I went with that.

Peralta gave up a solo HR in the 4th. 4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.

Peralta works around a 2-out double in the 5th and tacks on 2 more strikeouts. He should be done with Pete Levitt ready to come in for the 6th.

Here is what should be Peralta's final line in his full-season debut: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.

Interesting that Peralta skipped past Liria and got the Peoria spot. ...I'm kind of curious about his story. ....the Cubs kept him in DSL for three summers before finally bringing him over. Usually the more favorably-perceived guys come over sooner. .....

One thing that probably had at least a little to do with Peralta's 3 year DSL stint was serving a 50 game suspension for PED's. Granted, Contreras did as well, but Peralta wasn't a bonus baby, so maybe they waited on him as a kind of punishment?.....

Thanks, dave. I'd remember Contreras, of course, because he was a known name. I hadn't realized on peralta, since at the time he was just a no-name teen coming off a poor rookie year.

That might explain it.

Anyway, nice to have him start out well.

Any timetable on Guzman? He seems to be handling himself pretty well now. Obviously he had to start over, and there's no rush to get him up to the majors, but it'd be nice if we could see enough of him to know we can count on him next year.

Marwin Gonzalez is 22 now, is having a pretty easy time in the PCL. He's hitting .560 at present. He's not a power hitter, but neither is he Darwin Barney. Slightly over 1/3 of his hits this season have been for extra bases, and he's slugging over .450 on the year. .830's type OPS. I think he's going to be a major leaguer.

Pugliese three no-hit innings thus far. Not bad early run for an 18-year-old.

the tough part about projecting him is that he was so abysmal with the bat the last 3 years. he hit well in 2007 but the last 3 years posted an OPS of .632, .596 and .628. now all of a sudden he's got an OPS over .800?

Gonzalez 3-5 with a 2B and a 3B so far tonight. The kids definitely been on a roll this year. Going by his age and that so far he's steamrolled AA and currently AAA, he could be a top 10 prospect next year, easily top 20. he's quickly joining Flaherty and Lemahieu as guys I'd rather have over Barney next year. Anyone know what he's like on defense?

He's younger than Soto was when he exploded out of nowhere.

i'm not saying it can't happen, but with soto you had a truckload of power showing up. the biggest change for gonzalez is that he's making more contact and his batting average is way up, maybe a few more doubles too. i have a hard time getting too excited about him because his ceiling is probably darwin barney, and we already have one of those.

I don't know, I think if he were in then majors now, he'd be putting up similar numbers to Barney, and Barney is 25 years old. Gonzalez is around the age most college kids are being drafted, so you never know. If nothing else, between him, Flaherty, DJ, and Motq, we could see if we can't sell high on Barney.

Catchers have a tendency to be late bloomers.

That said, Gonzalez has caught my attention somewhat. That BABIP is unsustainable, but there seems to be some real progress. Between that and his age... He's pretty likely to end up a major leaguer. But I need to see more progress than he's shown so far before I'll see him as anything more than a marginal guy.

unfortunately we never sell high. Eitherway, I'm glad to see that Marwin is hitting well in AAA as one of the youngest guys in the league.

I really would like to see Barney traded. Dont get me wrong, I like him, he seems like he could be a ryan Theriot who can field, but middle infielders who can hit s bit are always in demand, and we seem to have a lot of solid middle infielders in the system, between Gonzalez, Flaherty, DJ, Mota, and Watkins to name a few. Obviously, Castro isnt going anywhere anytime soon, so thats 1 job off the market.

nobody is going to give up anything of value for darwin barney. his minor league numbers scream utility infielder, and his ops is .668 this year... plus he's been a bad hitter aside from his .801 ops in the first month. people seem to be under the mistaken impression that winning mlb teams are led by morons who would love nothing better than to give up valuable commodities for a middle infielder who can't hit much.

On his own, he wont net much. However, if packaged up with a rent-a-player like Fukudome or Pena, he could add a bit to the trade. Same goes for Blake Miles.

Sold high on Archer and DeRosa off the top of my head.

Sold high on Ceda too, but Gregg was just a stupid trade target.
