I'm huge on Struck, but man ... this sort of feels a bit rushed for the kid. Here's hoping it all turns out well, but entering the season, I was simply hoping he'd have a strong year in Daytona.

He'll turn 22 in October. Opponents hit .302 off him in TN and .280 in DY. He is almost certainly being rushed, at least it seems that way to me.

With Struck getting the promotion to Iowa, will anyone be taking his place in Tennessee? Rosscup might be a good option if hes off the DL.

Marcus Hatley is taking his spot in Tennessee. But he's likely to pitch out of the pen. Not sure who will take Struck's rotation spot. Has the ship sailed on Ryan Searle as a starter?

Yes, i know a family that housed him in Daytona and they said he is transitioning to Closer/*th inning type guy

Didn't look at his scouting report but based upon his splits, he has a real tough time getting out LH hitting. Lefties were hitting .360 off him at AA which accounts for most of the reason that his Opponent BA was so high.

Matt Loosen will replace Struck in Tennessee's rotation. He's been promoted from Peoria.

Cuban defector Frank Del Valle has been promoted from Mesa to Peoria.

Interesting. Quite a year for Loosen - from XST to Daytona's pen to Peoria's pen to Peoria's rotation to Tennessee's rotation.

I'm gonna get over to Peoria for Del Valle's first home start. Really interested to see him pitch live (not sure why, but I am).

Any chance any of you will be checking out Peoria tomorrow for Starling Peralta's debut?

Man, lots of crazy jumping around. We'll see with Loosen. This seems to be the kind of thing they do with a guy who happens to be performing well but who they don't really view as much of a prospect. Put him wherever somebody needs him.

So if I'm guessing this right, Peoria is left with:

Kirk, Jokish, Hicks, Peralta, and del Valle?

I won't be surprised if Struck get demolished in the PCL. But, sometimes when you're kind of confident and on a roll, it takes a while to get exposed. Beeler looked pretty decent at Tenn for a bit before getting kind of exposed.

Kind of a change for the Mesa team. They'd been using a 4-man rotation, so to lose both Peralta and del Valle will change their look quite a bit.

Interesting that Peralta skipped past Liria and got the Peoria spot.

18K/2BB at Mesa is one thing, we'll see how that plays in full-season. He was 67K/19BB last year (67IP), and 22K/4BB two years ago (26IP).

I'm kind of curious about his story. His K/BB have always looked nice, but he's always been highly hittable and hasn't had notably good ERA's. Second, the Cubs kept him in DSL for three summers before finally bringing him over. Usually the more favorably-perceived guys come over sooner. So maybe he's a late bloomer, or had some health issues, or wasn't advancing well in his English classes, or something. Or maybe he just wasn't viewed as being that gifted. That was then, it will be interesting to see what he's got now.

Yeah, I didn't like seeing Loosen double promoted just like I didn't like seeing Beeler double promoted earlier this season.

Looks like Tennessee has a rotation of: Beeler, Loosen, McNutt, Raley and Rusin. Daytona's rotation doesn't change (Guzman, Lorick, Rhee, Serrano and Wallach). You're correct on Peoria's new rotation. I assume Pugliese slots back in as a starter for Mesa and they've had a few piggy backers who could become their 4th starter (e.g. Ramon Garcia and Jean Sandoval).

According to the Smokies website, Ryan Searle is starting today, looking over his last few games, many of them have been mulitple inning stints..

Also, i heard that Chris Rusin was being sent to AAA... Im surprised to hear that Loosen is going to go to AA i thought that Kirk might have had a shot to be promoted.. Maybe follow in Dallas Beelers footsteps a little especially after the game he had last night

Whenever Kirk is promoted (which should be really soon), I think he's headed to Daytona. Beeler and Loosen were both college draftees but Kirk was picked drafted out HS so I think the Cubs will be slower with Kirk.

Other than Whitenack, Rosscup was daytona's best pitcher. Even when Struck was there.

He was good, then he missed most of a month, then he pitched a couple of outings, now he's gone again.

Does anybody know what's up with him?

http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2011/07/whos-the-youngest-in-each-league-midseason-edition/

Youngest players in each league:

MLB: Starlin Castro - 2nd youngest

PCL: Marwin Gonzalez - 9th youngest, Alberto Cabrera - 10th youngest (this list was compiled before Nick Struck's promotion)

SL: Junior Lake - 4th youngest

NWL: Ben Wells - 6th youngest

No Cubs in the FSL, MWL, AZL or DSL.

And besides Wells, the other 6 in the NWL top 7 are Rangers prospects in Spokane. Early signs of their dominance in the Latin American FA market the past few seasons.

I hope for the best with Struck, but I kind of think this is definitely a rush job and that either McNutt or Whitenack would have been there, if they were healthy.

Angel Guzman threw 2 perfect innings with 2Ks for Daytona, and has been replaced by Casey Harman in the 3rd inning. Burgess doubled in the 2nd inning but was stranded.

One thing that probably had at least a little to do with Peralta's 3 year DSL stint was serving a 50 game suspension for PED's. Granted, Contreras did as well, but Peralta wasn't a bonus baby, so maybe they waited on him as a kind of punishment?

At any rate, thru 3, he's given up a walk and struck out 3.
