@BruceMiles2112: Looks like Max Fried and Carlos Correa working out postgame for #Cubs ahead of draft. No confirmation from Cubs yet on names"

Bruce also posted 2 pics of the workout on his Twitter. Scrum is pitching BP.

My list at this point as far as preference is Appel, Gausman, Correa, Buxton, Zimmer, and that's as far as I can go. If Giolito takes slot, I'd move him to 1. But if he won't, he's basically off my list. Between Zunino, Almora, and Fried? I think I'd be happy enough with any of them. Pitching is much deeper than hitting in this draft, so I may would lean hitter at 6, because of that alone. Then draft pitching with my next 4 picks possibly. If we wind up with Soler, I think I'd prefer Zunino over Almora, mainly because we are solid organizationally OF-wise. If we don't think we're getting Soler though, I think Almora is my pick. Although, I'm drafting for need, which isn't very smart.

You've gotta stop with that crazy "may wood" and "might could" stuff

Surprised to see Appel #1. I'd personally prefer them in the order of Buxton,Correa,Gausman,Appel,Giolito,Almora,Zunino,Zimmer. If it ends up being any of the top 5 I have listed I'll be pretty thrilled.

Getting a decent ceiling, high floor Catcher at 6 is about the lowest ceiling guy we're probably considering. And he's probably the safest bet of anyone to be an All Star of anyone in the draft. I don't care as much about 6, as I do 43,56,67, and 101. Those are what's making or breaking our draft. We're getting a good guy at 6.

Pretty much this. If Correa, Buxton, and the big three SP are off the board, I'll be thrilled with Zunino.

According to a guy I know who is very well connected to the UCLA baseball program, Giolito's dad is floating $6+ million (which would be slot for 1.2).

There's a blurb in Mooney's CSN article this morning, citing one source who said the Cubs may have spent 3 to 4 times the allotment amount, if not for the new CBA. Just hearing this, true or not, really pisses me off about the damn CBA.

Yeah, that's really not surprising given what the Cubs and Padres did last year and what the Red Sox have been doing for nearly a decade.

What do you think about Fried?

He must be under consideration for pick 6. If the wrigley visit with top guys are for face-to-face and asking pointed questions rather than baseball scouting, no point in facing him unless he's a possibility. He's obviously not going to last to 43.

Cubs really need to only identify their top 6, and rank them. That scouting should be done, for top 6 and beyond. I assume that some of the "ask pointed questions" relates to personality or problems, but probably it also relates to $$$.

Fried must be under consideration for #6. That's pretty interesting, and means there's a serious chance we'll take him, since many of the Cubs favorite 5 will probable be taken before #6. What do you guys know about him, and do you like him?

I suspect that while the talent evaluation is done for first-round candidates, that dollar talk remains very much active. So while Fried must be under consideration, that consideration may be due-diligence contingency in case higher-rated talents price themselves out of pick 6.

6. Chicago Cubs: Albert Almora, OF, Mater Academy (Fla.)

The talk remains around three: Almora, a toolsy outfielder, Correa, a high school shortstop, and Fried, a prep left-hander

I would be very happy with either of those three, my preference would be (in order) 1. Almora 2. Fried 3. Correa

I really like Almora, and I like Fried because of his practicability and our system lacks a true high ceiling pitching prospect.

I really want Giolito...and it might just be because we "can't" have him (or, rather, shouldn't take him).

If it weren't for the new CBA, I'd be all about taking him. Hell, I'm still convincing myself we should go in a different direction. But, I'd much rather take one of Almora, Zunino, or Fried(think the other 5 are gone) and have the ability to take high upside guys at 43, 56, 67, and 101. If Giolito takes 5 mill(and that's the low end rumor) it costs us 1.3 mill from our draft pool we could spend elsewhere. And now, it's a requirement to offer a guy at least 40% of slot value for their pick. So, it's not punting one other high pick in order to take Giolito, it more like punting one of 43 or 56 on a college senior, plus 101 and probably one of your 6-10 rounders as well. Young arms are just too volatile. I'd rather have multiple high upside guys than put everything into one, even if he's the best out of the group currently.

From PSD, ABTY says KC thinks both Gausman and Appel will be off the board whenh they pick at 5 and they have a deal in place with McCullers Jr if that's the case. Zimmer has had some red flags pop up twice recently and some teams have dropped him. Giolito has negotiated with the Padres, Dodgers, D-Backs, and Blue Jays, telling all other teams he's not going to sign. Fried has also told KC he'd rather be drafted elsewhere. So, if all of this is true, basically Appel, Gausman and 2 of Zunino/Buxton/Correa will be off the board. With us possibly having flagged a sliding Zimmer and KC taking McCullers.

I will be very confused if the Astros take Appel. I mean, why [expletive] up the first overall selection on a turd of a team?

Blue Jays have multiple 1st round picks so they can work around the slot restrictions better than most teams.

My guess on Toronto with Giolito is they're in a much better place than we are to shoot the proverbial wad on a single player. Their system is ridiculously stacked and they have 2 firsts and 3 supplemental rounders. I doubt we think we're in a position to spend that much towards one guy, who certainly has risks attached, whole they could do it without it hurting that much, if they miss. My guess is the Psds take him at 7 anyway.

Craig, Fried at 6 isn't a reach. He's projectable, has solid velo and conceivably could turn into a future ace. He's almost definitely a top 10 guy. I've kind of gotten to the point I'd like to see us take him just because our system hasn't had a bigtime lefty in quite a while.
