SS Daniel Lockhart, HSer who's Keith Lockhart's son, also a Cub scout now.

That's about what I weighed as a cub scout too

Fatty fat fat

FFS, I don't weigh that much and I'm 28. Of course I'm only 5'7.

I'm very excited ... but ... I really wonder if we get him signed.

Sort of feels like this draft needs to be viewed side by side with the 2010 prep pitching gambles as a way to balance out the system.

And now, I'll begin praying we can sign these guys.

If Baez,Vogelbach, Dunston and Maples make it into the organization I will be thrilled with this draft. Zych and Rosario would be nice bonuses.

So is Maples on of those guys who if we dont get him signed, in 2-3 years he'll be a top 5 pick and in 4-5 years, a perenial Cy Young winner?

Plus stuff, but there are concerns he may end up in the bullpen. 1st round quality stuff.

Yeah, I really sold out on the pun there.

That's actually what I weigh now.

If you guys can list everyone who has been drafted since Lockhart, I'll try to get some BA reports. It's tough to follow along on a phone, especially when you're supposed to look like you're working.

Dillon Maples is BA's 47th best prospect in the nation and UNC is probably the best school at keeping commits besides the Stanfords and Vandys of the world.

Dillon Maples, rhp

Pinecrest HS, Southern Pines

Maples has had the benefit of professional insight. His father, Tim, was a second-round pick of the Orioles in 1979, and his pitching coach at Pinecrest is James Baldwin, the former White Sox all-star. Scouts got a good look at Maples during his junior season when they went to see Baldwin's son, outfielder James Baldwin III, who signed with the Dodgers as a fourth-rounder. Maples' best assets are athleticism and arm strength. Also a standout kicker on the football team, he stands at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds with a strong lower half. His fastball sits 91-94 mph and has touched the mid-90s throughout the season. His curveball is an above-average pitch that has left his competition in the state overmatched. He lacks command of his fastball and actually does a better job of spotting his curveball. He has shown a changeup in warm-ups but doesn't need it in games, so the pitch will need development. Maples has a short arm action and questionable mechanics that lead to his below-average command. Scouts say his athleticism will allow him to make the necessary adjustments. He is committed to North Carolina, where he would play baseball and have a chance to walk on as a kicker for the football team.

Yeah I don't have any hope of Maples being signed. Everything I've seen has said will be tough to get away from UNC.

Would sure be nice though.

Not a ton of guys left we'll have heard of, but I'd like to see us take Burdi or Hawtin Buchanan as far as pitching goes. Hitting wise, I'd love to see us take a shot on Deion Williams, a SS out of Georgia.

Maples' father, Tim, a former pitcher who reached Triple A in the Baltimore Orioles organization, said MLB teams are aware of a contract figure that will correlate with his son's signability. Maples turned 19 last month, so he would be eligible for the 2013 draft if he doesn't reach an agreement by the mid-August deadline and decides to play for the Tar Heels.

"Dillon has a great opportunity right now to go to Carolina and play baseball and football," Tim said. "If things don't pan out the way we've discussed with the teams, that is a great scenario. If things work out the other way, that's something we'll obviously have to consider."

Seems like it's just a straight up money issue. Doesn't sound like he has a preference for college, just that he's holding out for the right price.
