"Chirinos" Clevenger tied his career high with his 5th HR yesterday. He's a career .311BA/.371 OBP/low-K guy. With even a little big of power, he'd seem to profile rather nicely as a LH-hitting big-league catcher. He's transitioned up to AAA rather nicely, as is to be expected for a contact hitter who doesn't have that much trouble with breaking balls.

I wonder what the Cubs internally really think about his defense? My perception is that he isn't very tooly defensively and doesn't have a very strong arm (for a catcher), but that other than a weak arm that his defense and alertness as a catcher aren't problematic.

pretty good outing for rhee - 4.1 ip, 3 h, 0 r, 2 bb, 2 k. junior lake is 2-3 with a double... he gets extra credit because it's off shelby miller, who's a top 20 prospect in baseball (10 K's in 6 IP today and 69 K's in 46 IP on the year).

tennessee has scored a bunch of runs, no vitters in the lineup though. lemahieu is 2-4 with a triple, flaherty 2-3 with a double and a walk. beliveau continues to get people out - 2.0 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 1 k. his numbers in tennessee - 8.2 ip, 3 h, 1 r, 1 hr, 3 bb, 14 k. probably time that he starts being taken seriously as a prospect.

Currently at the chiefs game and let's just say Simpson has been less than impressive. Just gave up long solo shot to left field and just hasn't missed many at bats at all. Breaking pitch consistently has bounced in front of home plate.

Any velocity readings?

4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 5 K for Simpson.

Isn't any radar gun readings at Peoria stadium so I have no clue how hard he was throwing but seems like Jockish IA throwing harder. Simpson looks to have really good movement on his breaking pitch if he can throw it from strikes. Considering all the tine missed he may still be trying to get the feel for it I don't know.

that's weird that he didn't miss many bats because he actually did better striking people out than in most of his outings this year.

Ya I honestly didn't realize he had 5. Pretty sure most were on his breaking pitch looking. Like I said before when it doesn't bounce in front of hone plate it looks like a pretty good pitch for him.

And it's quite possible I missed a few of the K's during the 3 restroom trips in 5 innings my son had to take lol

The scouting reports I read when Jokisch was drafted had him primarily 86-89.

Really? Wow. Hard to tell with no radar obviously but he was definitely more dominant than Simpson tonight. Once he came in he was in total control. And I don't think a runner reached 3rd while he was on the mound

Well, he could easily be throwing a little harder now - especially if he isn't throwing 7 inning outings like he did in college. 86-89 is about what Simpson supposedly has been at too this season.

Knoxville News-Sentinel[/url]"]Starting pitcher Chris Rusin was a late scratch for the Tennessee Smokies due to injury shortly before Saturday night's game against the Mobile BayBears. It turns out, the Smokies didn't need him.

...

"I feel really good and hopefully it continues," LeMahieu said. "I'm not going to try to change anything. I had a bad first half in (High-A) Daytona last year. In the second half I figured it out. That was a big adjustment for me."

Lake's batting average is over .300 now and he's still flashing some pop. He still needs to work on his approach and his defense, obviously... but I'm not as ready to give up on him as some.

his babip is almost .400. no idea about his LD rate and i guess he's pretty fast plus it's the minor leagues (bad fielding), so his babip should be a little higher than normal, but i suspect the main reason he's hitting .300 is luck on balls in play. he hasn't shown the ability to hit for high average in the past and i doubt that skill has just developed now.

I almost referred to you by name when I said "some people."
