Seriously disappointed that Jeff Lorick is in the Daytona rotation and Dae-Eun Rhee isn't.

Does anybody have any experience with milb.tv? I just saw that it's only $30 for the year... if the quality is even just ok, that's a huge steal. But I figured I'd make sure it's not one awful guy in the cheap seats with a shaky cam for every game.

I took a look at the demo on milb.com and it looked good on my computer screen. The cost is lower for somebody that also subscribes to mlb.tv, but I don't know how much the discount is. I don't have it just because I don't like being tied to my computer screen to watch an entire game. If it ever becomes available on streaming devices (such as blu-ray players) like mlb.tv did I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.

It looked like that demo was the AAA all star game. I figure that's about as good as their coverage gets. I was wondering more along the lines of how it looks every other day.

Raisin, how much of that is that they're going slow with Rhee post surgery. He's struggled last season, maybe he's just taking longer than normal to come back and they don't want to push it.

This is his 3rd year since surgery, right? If he's still not healthy enough to pitch 3 years after his surgery, I think something's not quite right.

He was pitching rehab games two summers ago. Aren't most guys are back and ready to be used full-bore within 32 months or less of successful surgery?

Didn't realize Kurcz was moved to pen duty. Not that it's a big deal - his future was in the pen anyways.

Perez is really swinging the bat well in those limited AB's this year. That said, we've seen flashes from Nelson before.

Ryan Searle's putting together a decent year in the pen so far, but hard to have high expectations for him, at least for me right now. Was also mildly surprised that Latham was demoted. Was it due to injury? Or numbers game?

Box score shows Kurcz pitched relief. Is that true? I wonder who'll take his rotation spot? Anybody know if that was real, or one of the FSL box errors?

I admit I'm kind of confused with what's status quo for Daytona's rotation. Whitenack out, Doug Davis in and will be out, Lorick in today, Kurcz out today. Will Kurcz go back in? Rhee? Will Kirk get promoted? Will be interesting to see it settle out.

My point was, though not clearly expressed, that perhaps it wasn't a very successful surgery. If he's still being kept on a pitch count and that's the reason he's not starting, then maybe the reason why he struggled so much last season was that he wasn't 100% then and he still isn't. Just spitballin'.

He's still K'ing like crazy, but he's done a nice job of keeping his BABIP up at .500. If he can sustain that, who knows? Not sure if that stats page I'm looking at already includes tonights action, but it's kind of interesting that when he puts the ball in play, not only is his batting an even .500, but 17 or the 19 in-play hits are singles. I still wish they'd just move him over to pitcher, but whatever.

If Kurcz is out of the rotation at Daytona, I wonder who replaces him? Kirk from Peoria?

If Rhee is still recovering from TJS in August 2008, he's not ever going to be meaningful. That he can't crack a rotation that has Lorick now in it and just lost Kurcz also is not a positive.

Scouting question: What do we know about Bour? He's huge, LH, 22, has 7 HR's, and has excellent BB/K stats.

I assume he fields and runs like a 25th-round 250-pounder? I guess I'm curious how many HR's he'd need to hit to overcome some of the other limitations?

craig, Perez as a pitcher? I don't seem to recall him being a pitcher at any point since he signed with us (that is, DSL days). Am I forgetting something, or is this a, strong arm, try him at pitcher thought?

He's got a very big arm, so that's why I think he'd have a much better chance to reach the majors as a power reliever than as K-king hitter. When you whiff so much and walk so little, you need to hit a LOT more HR's than he does to cover it as a player. But probably wishing he was a major-league prospect is silly and I should be happy to have him as an organizational player getting some lucky BABIP.

But I do believe he was originally signed as a pitcher, and they switched him to outfield because of his prodigious BP power, and hoped that some contact skill would come in time.

Question: do you guys know the nature or severity of Dallas Beeler's injury?

Got pulled after 3 perfect innings in his last start about 11 days ago or so. Anybody have any scoop?

hmm, you may be right on Perez signing as a pitcher, now that I think about it. But I think the transition occurred quite early, as I seem to recall him being an OF since DSL.

I saw Bour a couple times last year, and let's put it this way. My take, of course. Could I see the Cubs try to get him some LF time, as they are doing with Ridling? Perhaps, but he isn't going to do much out there, IMO (positively that is).

The positive thing is that he has a good approach and does know how to attack a pitch and utilize the entire field. The negative is that, for awhile, he was viewed as a guy who, despite his size, was more of a gap power guy.

I'll be honest, no idea what to think on Ridling and Bour's hot starts. Considering the positions long range questions, their hot starts sure catch the yee.

Nelson Perez did indeed sign as a pitcher. He converted to a hitter after a couple of BP sessions though.

Beeler has an oblique injury and is on Peoria's DL.
