after watching the beginning of the reds/cards game on espn tonight, i just gotta say that if it has been going on for a 1-2 season duration, it is not a rivalry, it's just bad blood between some specific players. a rivalry takes longer to be called a rivalry than brandon phillips has been in the league.

Just another example of Cincinnati's redheaded stepchild complex. Bash St. Louis and Chicago because the city you play in has no redeeming qualities to brag about (and fans that don't show up to the ballpark even when you're in first place.) Have St. Louis players been this mouthy about Cincinnati and Chicago? Because from what I've heard it's only been the Redlegs (Phillips and Votto specifically.)

What makes BP's comments even more ridiculous is the fact that Cincy's idea of delicious local cuisine is bland chili flavored with chocolate and cinnamon and poured over wet noodles. Cincinnati is a hellhole when it comes to good local eats.

I've been here two years now, and I don't find anything redeeming about the local St. Louis cuisine. T-Ravs are decent, but their pizza sucks. There are some pretty good restaurants around here, but none of which specialize in "local fare." I really miss being able to get Italian Beef.

Go to Blue's City Deli, everything they serve is fantastic. There's also a place on Delmar that does a great job with their Chicago dogs, but I can't vouch for their beef sandwiches.

I've heard that Blue's City is fantastic. I really need to check it out sometime in the near future. I've been to the Chicago dog place, it was worth the trip. Have you tried the new BBQ place in Soulard which I think is run by the owners of Pappys yet?

Wasn't aware Mike (Pappy's) was opening a 2nd BBQ place.

Also, Montgomery Inn is rubbish! Meat was dry and flavorless. They relied on their sauce which is more vinegar/carolina based. It was awful. Plus, any "BBQ joint" that requires reservations and has valet parking is hardly a "BBQ joint".

Strangely, I've been both to Montgommery Inn in Montgommery and the one on the river downtown, and the one in Montgommery was much better for some reason. The meat was much more tender and the sause had a little bit of bite to it (at least for midwest standards).

Overall, I enjoy Skyline, Montgommery Inn and Graters ice cream from Cinci. I mostly dislike Larosa's, but that's mostly because the first time I had it was at Paul Brown Stadium, whilst watching the Bears get embarrassed.

I even like the UDF ice cream, although I find it really odd that the biggest gas station/convience store chain in the region sells ice cream out of their stores, and I see people buying the ice cream at all hours of the day. Cincinnati sure likes their ice cream.

UDF is the best, I'll grant you that.

And Cincy also has Penn Station going for it. But death to Skyline

I forgot about Penn Station. That's some good stuff too.

for such a relatively small metro area, they sure have a lot of unique chains originating in the town.

Skyline has locations throughout Ohio, southern Indiana, Kentucky and Florida. Gold star throughout the Cinci region, LaRosa's throughout Ohio, and in Kentucky and Indiana. Penn Station is in somewhere around 10 states. Graters is more of a regional chain but you'll see them in Columbus and Indy I believe.

It's not *that* small.

Remember, it extends into Kentucky. And the Dayton folks are generally considered to be part of the equation, as it's just down the road.

Small meaning 27th largest metro area in the US. Like for instance, I used to live in Baltimore, which has about 700K more in its metro and has been around just as long, and they don't have nearly as many metro-exclusive chains as Cincinnati has.

Skyline isn't metro-exclusive. We have them here in Columbus

Regional exclusive. They are in Southern Ohio up to Columbus, Northern Kentucky, and Indiana up to Indy, and I think they still have a location in Naples, FL.

I ate at the one in Montgomery several years ago and thought it was pretty good. I also liked the ice cream for dessert (I had raspberry chocolate chip). I've never been to the one downtown.
