Rockies announcers pointing out the drop in Garza's velocity so far this game. From avg. 93.5 last year to 89-90 tonight.

Matt Garza has been a dissapointment thus far.

I must say I haven't been overly impressed with anything I have seen out of him. I hadn't watched him pitch very much with Tampa, but I was expecting a guy with #1 or 2 type stuff.

Byrd was loafing on that and should have gotten an error.

This. Add the Castro throw, and it was just an awful defensive sequence.

We are kind of an odd team. Not a ton of power, not much speed, not great defensively.

I don't understand how a pitcher can be striking out 14 guys per 9 innings and be giving up 40% LD's on balls in play. If he's throwing so many meatballs, how is he striking out lots of people? And if he's giving up this many meatballs, how has he not given up a HR yet this year? His numbers so far this year are utterly perplexing.

Yeah. But that wasn't a lack of speed, Byrd was either loafing, or didn't read the ball at all.

hang on real quick while i write up my full scouting report on a guy after I see him throw 12 innings. I'm going to ignore everything else he's ever done, so it's going to be easy.

Yeah, it seems he's either striking guys out or getting squared up. It's confounding.

I understand your point, but we also saw the same act throughout Spring Training.

this is funny.

after an 0-1 count this year, hitters have a 771 OPS against him

after a 1-1 count this year, hitters have a 423 OPS against him

lol

You better, because non-reactionary thinking isn't allowed in the game thread.

This rotation is in serious trouble.

It'll be fine eventually. Dempster and Garza aren't likely to pitch this bad all year. Doesn't seem like Wells will be out super long. Cashner if healthy should be decent too. A 13 game sample that isn't encouraging isnt the end of the world either.
