Salvatore blew his whistle, but ruled he had done it inadvertently. That led to a jump ball, which Atlanta’s Josh Smith(notes) tapped away from Joakim Noah(notes). The Hawks scored on that possession to essentially finish off the Bulls.

“An inadvertent whistle is when a referee blows a whistle and didn’t mean to,” Salvatore said. “That’s exactly what happened. I blew my whistle and didn’t mean to. I didn’t think it was a foul.”

Bennett changed his opinion after watching a replay.

“It was a foul and I should have called it,” he said. “I made a mistake.”

He blew some chippies (for him) that he normally makes. Not like he was jacking up a bunch of threes.

I honestly thought he was throttling it back on three pointers that he normally would've taken to press the drive.

oh, so he can't shoot threes or making layups, MVP MVP MVP

Don't forget that he lost on Mother's Day after making a big deal out of how much he loved and admired his mom

At least he won't have to worry about disappointing his father on Father's Day.

Meanwhile, your father beams with pride that his son is a replacement-level troll in the basketball threads of a baseball message board.

I don't think you got the joke. Rose doesn't know his father.

Also, he won't be playing that late in the season.

It's a 2 for 1.

The straw man here isn't that the Bulls are gonna lose the series. The straw man is that we're all thrilled with how they've performed in the playoffs thus far.

When's the EC semifinals parade bros

Huh?

The latest date the Finals will end is June 16th, so no NBA players will be playing on or after Father's Day.

As entertaining as it can be to watch IMB and SSR cause this Bulls thread to eat itself, if you deleted every hyperbolic Rose isn't the MVP post and every stupid, puppy lovesick response to it, we'd have like 10 pages of actual basketball discussion.

It's hard to tell Bulls fans how much they suck at knowing basketball when they're too busy crying about a beloved player not being beloved enough by other fans bases.

Also if you deleted every post calling those two a troll, it would further reduce the thread length.

Not much to say about last night's game. Deng, Rose and Korver couldn't shoot, so there was no reason to spread the defense, so Atlanta could pack in and swarm Rose the whole night. Despite that, the game was still winnable with 3 minutes to play, but the defense collapsed on too many drive and kick plays, and the Hawks guards were making shots all game too. Josh Smith still can't hit an outside shot, but the Bulls didn't exactly make him try that, either.

Sure, the Hawks played about as well as they could possibly play. But that was enough to win, and the Bulls defense was unable to keep up for the second time this series in the 4th, which is more annoying than anything else.

I know it kind of reeks of panic, but I think the Bulls should use the Boozer injury as an excuse to play him a lot less. You can't let Noah go it alone defending the paint, and the offensive drop-off from Boozer to Gibson really isn't that great.

I don't think the Bulls do that against Atlanta. Boston/Miami, I could totally see, though.

Until then, I'll just hope for early and often foul trouble from Boozer (and not Gibson, who can be a bit of a foul machine).

Both Boozer and Gibson tend to rack up fouls quickly though. I think you'd end up having to play Boozer just as much.

Korver shoots every jumper like he's about to get a shot clock violation

Teague covered him so well that it was the only way Korver could get a shot off, but if that's the best look he was going to get, then he should have been passing it off, no doubt.

Teague did a great job, but he was was helped out by it being so clear that the offense was going to flow through Korver every time he was in. Nobody outside of Rose was contributing offensively at that point, and they had to get someone hitting some outside shots. None of the Bulls, outside of Boozer, could sink a shot outside the paint last night.

This offense has been ugly all year. Thibs is a cynical coach on offense. He's totally willing to abandon all hope of variety early, which is fine by me. Some of those clear outs in the 4th with everyone not #1 hanging on the weak-side high post were effective but too gimmicky to work consistently. Bottom line, Derrick either has to be unconscious hot or we don't win when no one else can score.

Lost in the loss, Omer was really effective defending the hoop. He had one high profile blunder when he went to help trying to prevent Korver from being stomped on by Horford, but that was forgivable. His activity closing out and showing high as well as contesting shots without drawing fouls is better than Jo. Certainly better than Kurt Thomas. I agree that we need to see more Taj too, but he needs to help Thibs out by not getting two fouls before he checks into the game.

Also, Jamal Crawford is going to look great in a Bulls jersey again next year.

That's true. Sweeping Miami in the conference finals will probably cause the UC to close down for a week or two to clean up the flooding caused by their tears (realgm joke).

That would require NBA games to be played next year.

For real? Josh Smith took a ton of outside shots yesterday. At least 6-7 that I can recall.

I'm leery about making definitive statements about who can afford what with the labor unrest, but how are the Bulls supposed to fit Crawford (or somebody similar)into their budget with Noah's contract ready to escalate? They're ~3M under the cap right now, and the only expiring contracts are Kurt Thomas and guys in street clothes.

I'm just going on what Jason Goff said on the Boers & Bernstein show. That Crawford wants to play on a championship contender in a city he feels comfortable in and is willing to take less to do so and prefers Chicago. Considering he's just what the Bulls need, the Knicks aren't going to want him again and Miami has dire needs in the front court, the Bulls should at least make a serious attempt to make it happen.

Even with Scalabrine and Thomas off the payroll, the Bulls are committed to $5mil more than their payroll this year...

That Boozer contract is gonna end up being a real albatross.

Josh Smith: 1/6 on shots outside 15 feet, 7-11 on shots at the rim.
