terrible first inning for peoria - kirk gave up 2 home runs, a single and a walk and the defense behind him made 3 throwing errors.

rusin has allowed 3 runs (2 earned) and 5 hits in 3 innings, but has just 1 bb against 5 K's. will probably be a tough task for the offense against matt moore.

Jax is 2/2.. Hitting .475

He's better than Colvin right now. Trade Fukudome and bring him up.

Make that 3/3.

How legit are his legs? I know he stole 30 last year in the minors.

Can he steal 30-40 in the majors?

I'd love to see a top of the order:

Jax

Castro

for years to come..

Nice selection Wilken. Very nice!

Smokies won a wild one 12-10. How did Blake Parker and David Cales end up there? werent they both in Iowa last year?

And man, that Iowa team looks like they could be either a really bad major league team or a decent indie league team.

Vitters has walked twice.

Best news of the day on the farm, with apologies to Brett Jackson.

Very pleased with Struck's start to the year. With some of the moves involving our top arms (trade of Archer, Carpenter to pen, Jackson possible pen but also injured, and McNutt's blister), we needed some arms to step up, and along with Whitenack, they are, so far, doing that. Granted, it's really early right now, but it's a positive sign. Furthermore, with Rusin and Cabrera's struggles, along with Dolis possibly moving to the pen at some point in 2011, both guys have a shot to be in AA as a starter at some point this year if they keep it up.

Glad to see I'm not the only one still holding out hope for him.

i think pretty much everyone is holding out hope for him; he was the #3 pick overall and played much of last season in AA at 21 years old. he's had some struggles but it's not like he's been completely overmatched at each level. this is a big year for him, though - he needs to start showing more patience and stop getting himself out on pitcher's pitches just because he can make contact with them. and he needs to improve defensively as well.

I wish they would just stick him at third and quit moving him between the corners just so LeMahieu and Flaherty can get some action at third. Vitters needs all the reps he can get at 3B.

My hunch is that they are fairly set on Vitters going to first base, provided that someone can emerge at 3rd (namely, LeMahieu). If LeMahieu's power stroke develops, it wouldn't surprise me if they made third his, and just shifted Vitters to first full-time.

I wonder if there's a way to trick Vitters into thinking every day is in April, groundhog day style. He just mashes out of the gate pretty much every year.

Does Tony Campana project to be anything more than Sam Fuld II? Could he make it in the big leagues? He seems to have the speed, how's his defense? I know hed likely not be more than a 4th outfielder, but I personally don't mind the high average players toward the bottom of the lineup, and your not going to have 8 guys OPSng >.800.

I don't look at him as anything more than a 5th OFer for us longterm, kind of what the Cubs were(are) hoping they received with Perez. Speed guy, basically.

That said, like Fuld has showed so far as well, if given the shot to play for a smaller market team, I think it's definitely possible he could be a productive player. But, he'll never have any trade value for us, so we may as well hold onto him and hope he adds some speed for us at some point in the future.

I think he struggled for April last year, or the first several weeks. I think he was hitting .230 or so, before getting a hot week and getting promoted.

But that's just my memory.

Agree that Campana probably projects as a Sam Fuld type, with less defense but possibly a more consistent hitter for average.

Pujols at 3B, Fielder at 1B, and trade the farm for Ichiro and King Felix. Now THAT'S what I call all in.
