We could do much worse for an emergency starter than Davis.

i don't really know why, but i somehow remember a story when Ramon Ortiz was coming up, as a rookie he gave everyone on the Angels haircuts

oh, and i'm sure Hendry sees Davis as Glendon Rusch for 2011

Like Ramon Ortiz's bloated ass

Ramon is the skinny one that looks like a burn victim. Russ is the hefty one.

It's official, per rotoworld:

Cubs signed LHP Doug Davis to a minor league contract.

Davis will report to extended spring training and will work out there until the Cubs deem him ready to make minor league starts. If everything goes smoothly, he could climb his way to the big leagues in May. The 35-year-old lefty allowed 55 hits and 36 runs in just 38 1/3 innings last season for the Brewers.

With Ortiz and now Davis I'm beginning to worry that the injuries to Cash and/or Wells are a little more serious than previously communicated.

Someone has to pitch in AAA either way. What you're seeing is the result of not only Wells and Cashner being hurt in the first week of April, but also Jay Jackson getting or appearing to be hurt in ST, Silva throwing a fit in late March necessitating his release, and Looper opting to retire at the end of ST.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about as well. Signing a guy who won't even be ready for another 3-4 weeks to be your 7th starter is not a great sign for those two. It could be that the Cubs are being unbelievably cautious and they're selling these veterans on a chance that will be gone by the time they're ready but it definitely is concerning.

I was worried that Davis had retired (because he pitched so little last year in either the majors or minors and was still available two weeks over a week after Opening Day) and was coming out of retirement for this chance but it looks like he is just getting healthy and was going to sign a minor league deal with somebody soon. That makes me feel better.
