On the plus side, if this means Quade can insert Grabow in the third inning and pitch him until he dies, I think it's a net win.

replace grabow with samardzija and i'm on board.

Works for me. Crappy overpaid relievers are a fungible commodity, in my opinion.

He's been back out there since the first of the year, I think. Has he contacted you at all ?

Haven't heard from him since last year. We might have to go to a River Cats game this year or something if he's out here.

Hey Fred what is the Cubs record on April 12th? :-k

I'll bet you could figure that out on RetroSheet in less than 4 minutes !!! ;)

I just went there but I think I've had too much beer to figure it out. I was just curious about the Cubs record on my birthday. I don't necessarily track such data on my own but I did see them play on my bday once (4/12/92) and they beat the Cards 4-2 on a 3-run HR by Hector Villanueva. \:D/

This is the slyest birthday dropping that I've ever seen.

Happy birthday!

I didn't even know Jeff Stevens was on the team this year. Wow, he's only pitched to 1 batter so far this year before tonight. 1 batter in 10 games

He was called up on Sunday, I think. Some weird rule about being able to call two guys up when you put 2 guys on the DL.

Considering he was called up after Wells/Cashner went on the DL, he's only been on the roster for 4 days.

Oh...shows how much I've payed attention. I assumed he broke camp with the team.

Johnson and DeWitt are clownshoes this inning, they are not doing much to help me think they should be on the team.

If anyone ever asks how big the difference between being a starter or a middle reliever in MLB is, tonight's box score can serve as a point of reference.

Amazing that the Cubs pen consists of Marshall, Wood and Marmol, and then absolute garbage. We gotta get someone in there we can trust to at least sometimes be decent. Seems like whoever we put out there gets rocked.

ERAs of our pen:

Russell - 9.82

Grabow - 8.31

Samardzija - 7.50

Wood - 3.60

Marmol - 3.38

Mateo - 2.08

Marshall - 1.80

I guess its not all bad.

Mateo's looking pretty good, and despite his monstrous starts Russell seems like he can be useful out of the pen.

Yeah no reason for us out of staters to make the trip lately. But Cubs in KC for 4 games. Freaking awesome.

.... yeah, and my freaking nephew decides to haul off and commit matrimony on that Sunday. There goes the KC road trip. [sigh]

Andrew?

CubmanPi

excellent, extend my congrats plz....maybe i'll pm him

Was doing bath/books/bedtime with the toddler, just got done "watching" that "game" on dvr. Made it thru the first two innings, then watched on full fast forward only stopping to watch the run-scoring plays. It worked out much better that way. Instead of feeling like a really fat guy was sitting on my head for 3.5 hours, it just felt like a car ran me over, then backed over me and drove off. Obviously, the point to that whole story is,

Thanks! We'll be in SF on my birthday to watch the Phillies-Giants play on Saturday 6 Aug (I figure there's about a 90% chance of seeing a sweet pitching matchup that day) and I should be able to make it to at least 2 of the 3 Cubs games at the end of the month in SF. I'll be back east next season, hopefully we can wind up in the same state and catch a game sometime.
