I hope they don't hire Gregg Marshall. Not that he's a bad coach but I just don't see him as a great fit at Illinois. I don't think he'd excite the fan base or the Chicago recruits like Shaka would.

Will Illinois run full-court press defense all the time if Smart takes the job? Plus the wide open up tempo offense... very un B1G like... Should be interesting to see him and Bo Ryan have a battle of tempos...

 

shaka doesn't run a full court press all the time. they will press at any point on the court at any time, but it is not a gimmick like 40 minutes of hell.

Yes there is! don't lose faith. After Michigan beats Minnesota tonight, I want to see the Purdue-Michigan rubber match, and then knock off IU or Bucky in the final to clinch a 2 seed.

Smart's philosophy sounds identical to Mike Anderson's. It's a lot of fun when it's working, but unless he implements a functioning half-court offense, there's going to be a lot of frustrating nights. Even wins will take their toll on you.

Every team that presses at some point in a game is not a Mike Anderson clone. Smart's fastest tempo team was slower than Anderson's slowest.

If Sheehey misses time, that will severely test IU's depth. 2 injuries on the wing in two days. And of course going into the season they thought Creek would be taking some of those minutes, so it gets really thin on the roster really quickly. Hopefully they tape him back up and he's out there in the second half.

Abell played quite a bit that half. Haven't looked it up but it seems his minutes were about equal to Hulls. Not much Roth in the first half either.

 

IU did a decent job of fighting back from being down 12. Can't afford to get too far behind Wisconsin.

"Shaka" is probably the best name in coaching. Someone in Champaign will have to come up with a clever slogan to print on t-shirts. Off the top of my head: "Orange Shaka!!!" On the less high-minded side, "Give em' the Shaka!" (and a pic of the hand gesture below the print).
