is 500 the seats right next to the bullpen? I sat there with a group of friends last year and it quickly overtook upper deck box as my favorite seats. we were maybe 10 rows from the bullpen. it was awesome.

No, 500 is the top level in the park. Upper Deck Reserved.

Wow. I just checked a few games to see what was sold out strictly out of curiosity and you can still get unobstructed seats and bleacher seats for Opening Day. No VWR, either. I think that says a lot.

Only 4 pages? Wow. These threads are just like the game threads; they're both getting shorter year after year.

Si, I remember back when we were excited for baseball and this thread would be the highlight of the spring. Oh well. The board is more or less a clubhouse for our long time posters anyways. I don't think our recognition among the Cubs internet community is anything near where it was 3 years ago. I'd guess Tim could probably confirm by looking at new registrants from 2005 to now.

No more VWR if anyone wants seats.

I still haven't bought any.

If Vance [expletive] Nickelson has not bought any Cubs tickets 7 hours after they went on sale, either he's dead or the Cubs are in trouble.

I just pulled up 19 bleacher tickets to Opening Day with no problems at all.

If you don't like bleachers, I pulled up 10 consecutive seats in the 400 level as well.

continuing my 5 minute monopoly of this thread, I can also pull up tickets to the Friday White Sox game, which is completely unheard of.

Want to take you and 18 friends to a weekend Cubs/Cardinals game? You can do that right now.

Of course who the [expletive] wants to spend $72 to sit in the [expletive] bleachers, when 3 years ago I could have paid $40.

I noticed this too. I'm not a regular around here in fact it's probably been 6 months since I came here. I do remember GDT would go easily 20 pages and ticket thread was about the same 3 years ago. This used to be known as the place to go for cubs talk. Doesn't have that same feel.

I did pay for bleacher tickets to Cubs/Sox, but bleacher pricing is getting a bit ridiculous. Every year I buy fewer tickets than the previous year, but somehow I always end up spending the same amount of money (or more).

$72 is insane. I hate bitching about ticket prices in general, but that is just way too much.

I mostly can't stand the shady way they raise ticket prices. One year they tripled the number of top tier games, and cut the value dates almost in half. I think there are only 6 or 8 of those now. But that doesn't stop them from bragging about how tickets at Wrigley are as low as $14 (the price of a terrace reserve ticket 8 years ago). And then that whole issue with the "we aren't raising ticket prices, we're just seperating the face value of the ticket from the amusement tax" thing, where the face value is the same but you are actually paying more. Clever

Anyways, I understand the need for it all, and I am all for whatever needs to be done to win the World Series. I just like to complain.

When they pulled that last year it really pissed me off.

It's the same as Dish Network saying "We aren't raising subscription fees" while they significantly increase their equipment fees... or XM not being allowed to raise their rates so instead they add a music royalty fee. I am not saying it is right, but these types of marketing tricks seem to be the norm in today's economy.

It's not that I'm dead or the Cubs are in trouble. It's a combo of a couple of things. First, they have raised prices to the point that the difference in waiting or getting them now is not that big a difference. Secondly, I'm not sure when I'm coming to Chicago this year. Third, I'm not interested in selling any for a profit. In the past, I'd buy tickets to the high value games if I got through...and if I decided not to go, I could sell them and make back some of the costs of my trips. Now, those things don't make sense.

I'm still going to go to the same number of games; it just doesn't make as much sense to buy early. If I knew when I was going, I would have my tickets. It's just I'm not in a hurry to make that decision right now.

I heard Ricketts talking about that and it made some sense. It's frustrating now, but in the future you can tell if it's the Cubs or Ticketmaster raising their rates.

The way pricing is now, the club has to be insanely good for you to make any money on the secondary market. With little hope of an exemplary season in the offing, the resellers are not in the mix today.

I used to fund several trips to Wrigley just by snapping up extras and reselling them. That isn't possible now.

I don't know, with the number of tourists that come in the summer months, I think it is possible to make money reselling Cubs tickets. What it has cut out is the small time people that try to make money buying tickets just for the extra income. The scalpers who pretty much make a living doing this kind of stuff can still make money, they just can't make as much, and they have to put a lot more effort into it.

I got 10 bleacher ticket for May 14th against San Fran. I am not real familiar with the area, but we have a free room for the Best Western. Is the one in Evanston too far away, or does anybody have an idea how much a cab ride is to the stadium?

It's 2-3 blocks from the Dempster St. el stop, which is less than a 40 minute el ride to Wrigley.

Do you have a free room for any BW? There is a best western within walking distance of Wrigley. Even one in Downtown.

I would basically get the best tickets I could to whatever game I wanted to go to. I would buy 4 instead of 2 and then sell the other 2. Sometimes I went to the game for free or close to it. I never lost money. I don't think you could do that anymore.
