I checked in yesterday just to see what was going on and I was randomly selected to purchase tickets immediately. Bought 3 pairs of tickets to value dates. I was surprised to discover that Labor Day (9/5) vs. the Reds was a value date. Usually the value dates are middle of the week vs. mediocre teams.

I got 10 bleacher ticket for May 14th against San Fran. I am not real familiar with the area, but we have a free room for the Best Western. Is the one in Evanston too far away, or does anybody have an idea how much a cab ride is to the stadium?

Do you have a free room for any BW? There is a best western within walking distance of Wrigley. Even one in Downtown.

I believe so. It's my buddy doing all the hotel checking since he is the one getting the free room. Does the best western new wrigley have a 2 night minimum. Everywhere he has called near there has told him he needed to at least get 2 nights

Remarkably, Opening Day is scattered singles everywhere except the bleachers, where boatloads of $72 tickets remain. I applaud the Cubs for getting anyone to pay $72 face to sit out there.

Up to $85 after fees. You have to figure many still bought for resale without realizing how bad the secondary market would be right now, so another season like last year and sales will be significantly worse.

Wait, bleacher tickets are $72 now?!?! Isn't that like double what they were just a couple of years ago?

$72 for the highest priced tier of games which I believe are opening day, Saturday and Sunday games in June, July and August, and maybe all cardinals, white sox and yankees games.

Edit: nevermind, they created a new "Marquee" tier of pricing that is 13 games: Opening Day, the Yankees and White Sox series, and the Cardinals weekend series in August. This is the only possible way that the Pirates would every be considered a marquee game. In this tier, Bleacher tickets are now $72 plus taxes and fees.

Platinum games are 17 games from mid-may to mid-August, and Bleacher seats are $58

Gold game are 19 day games (in the bleachers only) mostly pre-memorial day. They are $42 for the privledge.

Then there's Silver games ($32) and 15 Bronze games ($20) that are all either in April or September (and last week of August). That's insane that you have to pay $72 to sit in the bleachers on opening day, and then 2 days later you can sit there for $20

In all fairness to the organization, the marketplace has featured tiered pricing for years.

Last year, lots of people paid $72+ to sit there on Opening Day and significantly less for the same spot two days later. Now, the ballclub is pocketing the difference instead of Gold Coast/eBay/PayPal/StubHub.

The "fans" wanted the "brokers" out of the mix. Welcome to the new reality.

No doubt. It sucks but I understand it. It's fine by me, despite my bitching, as long as they don't price them so high that they don't sell out and lose revenue to better the team in the process.

Is anybody else going to attempt to get Cubs/Royals tix this morning?

Yeah Royals had their single game tickets open this morning at 10 am Central.

I got a single tix to the Cubs/Royals game (by the time I got in after about 45 minutes, the only 2 tixs side by side I could get either the really expensive ones or way the all back on the upper level)... The Sunday June 26th game... Section 102 Row D... $41 after all the taxes and whatnot ($31 face value).

Then I got 2 tixs in Section 250 Row EE for the Royals/Red Sox (I waited maybe 15 minutes to get in for this game) game on August 19th... That was $74 (after everything and $30 face value). Figured I would throw this out there for you guys to compare what other places (Kauffmann in this case) are going for their tixs...

Wow, sticker shock.

$100 for bleacher seats now? That's just too much. Last time I sat out there everyone in my group got mild heat stroke. And then we lost in the 9th inning.

Not sure if it's a 2 night min. But it has become kind of expensive there. So I wouldn't doubt it.

Evanston: it kind of depends on whether the hotel is close to the train.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Evanston once, and it wasn't near the train. Only a Pace Bus serviced the area, and was only *hourly*

It kind of sucked. For the lack of accessibility to Wrigley, you'd do just as well staying anywhere near a train station -- even further away mileage-wise.

This is all assuming you don't want to spend the $$$ to stay downtown, of course. My first choice would be to stay on Michigan Ave, or that general area.

I've also stayed in the Merchandise Mart area with good results.

The first time I sat in the bleachers the tickets were $6 or $8 dollars. I'm 42 and I think I was 12 or 13, so that's not that long ago.

I'm surprised you had so much trouble. I had about 15 windows open on 2 computers (30 total) and was in right at 10:00 on many of them. Still, there were no dugout box tix available for Saturday (must have been bought up by season tix and all the 15 game packages and stuff) and only the very worst dugout box tix were available for Sunday. I ended up getting 2 tickets in 236 for the Saturday game. After all charges the total was $104. I figure I'll just get some Dri-Duck tickets or other cheapies for the other two games if I get the chance to go.

I didn't buy any Wrigley tix this year because I didn't want to plan that far in advance without being able to know I could get my money back if I sold my tickets.

4-5 years ago, my BIL and I sat in the bleachers for $25/ticket on a Saturday in August.

In regard to Royals tickets you may want to check later in the year. Last year I was trying to get tix for target field in Minny when their ind. Tix went on sale. All they had was really bad seats for summer weekends. Checked around mid april & could get a much bigger choice of tix. If I remember correctly I think I ended up seeing them play the white sox in the end of july. Made it easy to cheer for the twins. Edited by hawkcub

The thing is once they put the 42 game limit on, the fans had a fighting shot to get tickets at a decent price if they had a clue to what they were doing and planned ahead. Instead of saying hey lets go to a ball game the day of the game. Now we are all overpaying.

I've seen this true with Rangers games as well.

One thing to remember about teams like the Rangers and Royals is that they don't have a capped off ticket base like the Cubs and Red Sox and other teams like that.

So, even though they have put single game seats on sale, they are still trying to add season ticket holders. To do so, they have to have seats to sell to those. So, they have held seats backs to offer as season ticket seats and mini-plan seats. They will even hold those into the season as they can say you can sit in this seat for the remainder of the season as a season ticket holder. As those games get closer and they still haven't sold those packages, they release seats.

I can completely see that Vance. Just now looked up when the Twins ind. tickets go on sale. It's March 19th. I guess they are waiting till the last possible moment for ST and partial ST people to sign up.

I've actually been told that's the case by one of the Texas Rangers reps.

Last year, I was getting group tickets to see the Rangers-Cubs. I wanted my tickets in the club level which has waiter service and extra leg room, etc. Anyway, at first they told me there weren't enough seats there. As I kept asking for areas, she told me that there were seats, it's just that they were set aside for season ticket holders. After talking to her about what we needed, she ended up getting a supervisor to approve us to have the seats.

The Ranger situation isn't quite the same this year as they have had a season ticket boost since going to the WS.

Teams like the Cubs who have maxed out their season ticket base and have a waiting list can pretty much put their entire inventory on sale.

Many teams however hold back premium inventory that would be the type of seat to attract a season ticket holder.

Any idea why the Cubs and Red Sox would cap their season ticket sales? Why not sell the entire stadium on a season ticket basis if you could, like, say, the GB Packers do.

My guess is so that they can claim that there are still tickets available for the everyday fan. Also, I think the waiting list actually keeps people renewing season tix even after a season like the last one. But that is just my guess.

I just got 3 tickets to the April 10th Cubs/Brewers game at Miller Park.I'm going with my dad and brother. Woohoo! Cubs games in Milwaukee are always the best because the place is half full of Cubs fans and it pisses the Brewers fans off so much.

Still only 4 games sold out? The Yankees series and the White Sox game on Saturday? I guess if the Cubs want to charge premium prices, they better start putting a premium product on the field.
