I wonder what the Giants are going to want for Osi and what Osi would sign for as a Bear. He and Peppers could go ballistic as pass rushers the next 3-4 years.

Supposedly the Giants want a 1st rounder. That won't happen, but that's what they want.

2nd and 4th?

The Bears made the right move in going out and getting a QB who has the potential to be a great QB. However, you can't just throw him out there and expect him to be great unless you give him the protection and the weapons he needs to utilize his strengths.

At least the production and/or the weapons. I'd be willing to accept one or the other. But neither shouldn't be an option, and right now we have neither. The notion that they are going to utilize blocking tight ends with reqularity just means even fewer receivers in the pattern. Makes it even easier on the defense. Great pass rushes won't be stopped by a tight end chipping. Your blocking needs to come from your 5 linemen.

I think they'll do the same thing they were doing in teh 2nd half of the season though, where they had Olsen and Manumaleuna blocking most of the time, rather than run routes. I think the argument is that if you're gonna do that, that Spaetz is probably the better guy for that than Olsen.

arguable.

Well [expletive]...reading that site has really made me much more pessimistic about the Bears moves.

We should be signing Zach Miller.

Also Jared Gaither.

So we signed the worst pass blocking tight end in the league last offseason to be our blocking TE. He predictably sucked as the Bears (only some credit goes to Malelelaufgshsdbgrma) led the league in sacks allowed. Then this offseason we cut him, and trade away the best pass catching tight end we have, who also sucks at pass blocking, for someone only marginally better but still among the worst in the league at pass blocking who is not known as a very adept pass catcher.

Wow, what the hell are we doing?

At first I thought, oh of course the numbers are skewed, our line sucked last year and we gave up a ton of sacks. Then I saw the 3 year numbers. Oops

Just an FYI for anyone in a similar situation, I called Directv to cancel Sunday Ticket and they offered it to me for $200 (regularly about $325). I'm still on the fence, though I'll probably keep it now. They win.

I've decided that the Bears are gonna sign Malcolm Floyd, Jared Gaither, and Zach Miller....then extend Matt Forte, and we'll all say what a great job Angelo did!! http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/sbreik/drunk/drunksmiley4.gif

Angelo seems to have a pattern of going out, signing a big FA, then following it up the next year with crappy signings, either in player ability or strategy. I think he gets ahead of himself, its pretty bad really Edited by minnesotacubsfan

I should try it, but they will be able to tell how half heartedly I'd be trying to dump it.

Seriously, I didn't try any hard sell at all. Just said I'm wanting to get rid of it. The guy paused and politely asked if I would tell him why. I told him the Bears FA signings sucked, and he said, "yeah I know, I'm a Bears fan too." Then he paused for another minute and asked if price was a consideration, and I told him it could be. And then he just made the lower offer. I could probably even do better than that.

I bet you could even just say you're "Considering dropping it" and wanted to see what they could do to persuade you to keep it.

Yeah I didn't do that because a) I really was thinking about dropping it, and b) I didn't want to sound like I was trolling for a discount.

But I'm sure you're right.

And I wouldn't feel bad about it, because as it is they are charging a ton more than what they need to, which is obvious by how much and how easily they are willing to discount it.

misread

lets get back to the Bears. better hair-do, Jeremy Schockey of Greg Olsen? Or just twins separated at birth?

The Bears have made very little to NO clear upgrades. Our OL is the same + 1 draft pick and by all accounts Spencer has his share of problems. We lost our best offensive pass catcher and added two receivers who have not been successful in recent memory.

I cannot began to wonder what JA and his 15 scouts are thinking here. I dont mind a youth movement, but you have done nothing to help Jay Cutler in the last 2 years.

So your contention is that Roy Williams and Sam Hurd are the same or worse than Devin Aromoshadu and Rashied Davis?

The argument is that the WR upgrades are countered by TE downgrades, since Olsen was a pass catching threat.

Oh give me a break. 404 receiving yards with only 5 TDs and a YPC under 10 last year. Granted Martz didn't get the most out of him, but the statement is still ridiculous.

It's been awhile since I've seen a player this overrated by Bears fans.

I was really intrigued when I heard the Bears linked to Zach Miller from earlier in this thread. I'm guessing since they didn't want to commit big money to Olsen they aren't going to allocate that much money to the TE position. Figuring they can just get by with cheap blockers from now on.

It's a shame, he would be a great fit.

Barber/Spaeth/Spencer/Williams are all small upgrades IMO. But only because the players that preceded them did absolutely terrible at their jobs last year. I like Williams potential being back in Martz's system, despite not being 25 anymore. Davis is definitely a downgrade from Olsen though - hence the Miller love.

There's still the possibility of additional upgrades, I really hope they've got something coming still. A lot is going to depend on how well Carimi plays from the get-go.

Recently cut cornerback Kelvin Hayden is visiting with the Bears according to Jason LaCanfora.

[expletive] him, he killed our championship dreams. What next, Derrick Lee and Juan Pierre joining the Cubs?

^^^^this.

Olsen was seriously underused in Martz' system. I really dont care if he likes TE or not, if you have a difference maker and a matchup advantage with ANY player, it would be foolish to not utilize that.
