Christ, Wittenmyer's really gonna ride that one until it sinks, isn't he?

And of course his stories will be the one that all of the local radio shows focus on when it comes to discussing the Cubs and signing FA after this season.

Can anybody just write an article for Yahoo!???

Seriously...

I know Yahoo! sports articles has been just turrible for awhile... but this is just mind-boggling nowadays. Who the heck is Joshua Huffman? I also click on his name and it says that he has a marketing major plus somehow he's a Cubs and Packers fan.

"I guarantee that two ace pitchers with Zambrano and Garza would make a huge difference"

Excellent analysis. I don't know why Hendry hasn't thought of this.

As a Packers and Cubs fan, he suffered through Steve Bartman and "4th & 26" in a span of three months.

(a) nobody gives a [expletive] that your sports teams lose

(b) your [expletive] nfl team just won the super bowl shut up you dumb douche

At least he got derrek lee'd before he signed with us

Prince Fielder just made about $30 million extra if Pujols is out for any extended period of time. I can see Boras now:

"He's only 27, never been hurt, blah, blah, blah"

And Hendry offering 8 years, 200 million.

Fielder keeps playing the way he has and Hendry might not be the only one offering 8 years and $200 million.

Pujols out 4-6 weeks with a broken arm.

That places Pujols' return date at the end of July/beginning of August, providing him with about two months to demonstrate that his bottom hand can operate like it has in the past.

Unlikely that he can fully recover that quickly though. He might be ready to play, but seems unlikely he'll be able to prove much regarding his effectiveness (and I wouldn't expect him to). We saw how long it took DLee to even be decent.

I think this slants the odds heavily toward Pujols' returning to the Cards. If competing franchises cannot be certain of his health/ability going forward, they are not going to tender an offer generous enough to lure him away from St. Louis. Meanwhile, those teams that may have emptied the bank for Pujols will likely turn their attention to Prince. I this may be great news for Fielder and Boras.

Not if St. Louis is even more risk averse than everyone else. They will be just as uncertain of Pujols' health/ability going forward.

In fact giving huge money to a guy with a significant health risk seems very un-Cardinal like.

I could be wrong and I'm no doctor, but a broken arm seems less concerning than a broken wrist (DLee).

I'm not a physician either, but a distal radius fracture (which is, if I'm not mistaken what Pujols has) is a fracture of the radius near the wrist. Derrek had non-displaced fractures in both his distal radius and distal ulna.

Edit: Re: Pujols staying in STL, my point is that if everyone is similarly risk averse, he may be inclined to stay put in an environment he reportedly enjoys living and working in.

Yeah, this just generally sucks for the Cubs since it makes it that much less likely that Pujols won't be a Cub AND Prince is now going to be even more expensive.

Fine, give me Prince and Reyes this year and Kemp after 2012.

Reyes SS/2B

Castro 2B/SS

Prince 1B

Kemp RF

Soto C

B. Jackson CF

Soriano LF

Vitters/Baez/Vance Law/Kevin Orie 3B

Yeah, I think I could accept that lineup

I think Ethier is more realistic than Kemp.

I would definitely use prospect we "may" obtain at the deadline plus some other to go after Butler and Ethier, then sign Reyes

Reyes 2B

Castro SS

Ethier RF

Butler 1B

Soriano LF

Soto C

Jackson CF

Flaherty / DeWitt 3B

With the monetary issues the Dodgers have, they may not be able to afford to re-sign Kemp, though. He's a FA after the 2012 season (I think?) and he'll cost a hefty bundle, so they won't have much time to get their finances in order before he's on the market.
