I like that the Chiefs are simultaneously a stumbling block from the Packers getting to 12 wins and a reason that the Broncos are going to get to 6 wins.

The Panthers O/U being 4.5 seemed low until Cam Newton went 6/19 last night against the damn Bengals. Now I'm not sure we'll win a game all year.

It's not the best of odds (-180), but I think under 7 on the Raiders is a safe bet. They went 8-8 last year but they went 6-0 against the AFC West and also had the NFC West as the crossover division. They're not going to go 6-0 against the division and they get the NFC North this year, which is a very tough division. They also get the AFC East but the two road games are Buffalo and Miami, and West Coast teams never do well in early games out East. Then there's the loss of Asomugha. I'd be shocked if the Raiders matched or bettered their 8-8 record of last year.

i know full well it means nothing, but watching our defense terrorize and effectively rattle Tom Brady was still a lot of fun; he must have bounced a good four or so normal passes tonight

How's the beast that is Vernon Gholston looking over there?

Man, the right side of Miami's OL is horrible right now. If they don't do something about that, it's gonna be a long season. Chad Henne looks great, though.

"We're playing pretty much mistake-free football. New England has some good recent history, but we beat them pretty handily.''

-- Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford, after the Lions routed the Patriots 34-10 Saturday night at Ford Field.

According to USA Today, via SportsBusiness Daily, Eisen no longer will be hosting Total Access.

Eisen will continue to host the network’s on-site game coverage, and he’ll anchor the marathon coverage of Sunday regular-season games.

That's too bad.

I really like Rich Eisen so that is disappointing to hear. The good thing is, the NFL Network has done a really good job of having good on-air personalities for the most part (Thursday night game crews excluded) so it's not as bad as it'd be on ESPN or something.

PFT makes it seem like Eisen got a promotion, but it just seems he's cutting back on how much he's doing for NFLN.

Does anyone else think there's almost too much optimism surrounding the Lions this year? I know I have been anti-Lions in the past, but it has nothing to do with them. It just seems like when a sub .500 team gets so much preseason hype and gains more with an impressive preseason, people tend to get excited and overrate them. I definitely respect the talent on the Lions, but I wouldnt be surprised if they finished like 6-10. I also wouldnt be surprised if they went 10-6.

Don't get me wrong, Lions fans have a right to be excited because it seems like they are putting together an exciting team. But don't let preseason play get your hopes up too much. Just a few years ago they went 4-0 in the preseason and 0-16 in the regular season.

Every year there's a lot of "This is the year the Lions are finally good", it seems to me. They're really enjoying that Patriots win though:

“What up Twitter fam,” Suh told his followers on Sunday. “Last night was a lot of fun beating up on the Brady Bunch. I think we played pretty well as a team. It’s a good start, happy with where we’re at right now but never satisfied and looking for more.”

Something like that. You got the Vikings part right at least.

Ahh...ok. I share your optimism that the North can get both Wild Card spots. It will be fun to see the Bears play a road playoff game, since they haven't played in one since 1994 (not including the Super Bowl)

yeah, what's to get so excited about a former #1 overall pick putting it all together to the tune of a 154.0 QB rating?

go ahead and talk about how much preseason games mean to the Lions when our starters were all sitting on the bench watching Brady, Mayo, etc. still playing for nearly another whole quarter of play, visibly frustrated

nobody's getting excited about stupid preseason wins, they're excited that our first-stringers are having their way with other team's first-stringers, which is all you really care about in preseason action

but hey, if you have a strong feeling about it, you definitely should be jumping all over the under for wins, at +150 right now

I said it had nothnig to do with the Lions specifically, just all the hype they've gotten plus a solid looking preseason. I'm sure Brady and co. were frustrated. Even if you are running very simple game plans and aren't really game planning the opponent like its the regular season, no one wants to give up 30+ points in a half of football. Not saying there's no merit in the performance, but do you honestly think a veteran team with lots of experience is playing with the same effort and intensity as a young hungry team looking to prove itself?

Anyways, after doing a quick google search about the 2008 preseason, I can see that the topic seems to be brought up quite frequently among Detroit newspapers and blogs, so I can understand your frustration about it being brought up here. I obviously don't really root for any other North teams, but if any team besides the Bears had to win the division, I would want the Lions to. They seem to be a really exciting team.

it's an asinine comparison that people are making, because our wins in '08 were mostly just meaningless Drew Stanton preseason 4th-quarter Comeback Specials™, whereas this year our starters actually look terrific (rushing offense excepted)

anybody with a pair of eyes should have known we were doomed for failure in '08; i think i forecast a winless year like 3 weeks into the season
