Somehow, Gus doesn't have a full-time NFL gig while Dick Stockton, Chris Myers, Ron Pitts and Sam Rosen do. At least FOX is finally starting to get the memo that Sam Rosen sucks and moved him all the way down to the 7th team.

Like it said, Gus's primary responsibilities will be doing college games.

Right. That still doesn't make it any less unfortunate. Plus if Wayne Larrivee can do double duty, Gus sure as hell can too.

Seriously. Wayne Larrivee would do a Bulls game on Friday night, a Michigan State game on Saturday and a Packers game on Sunday more than a few times each year.

FOX will announce the following pairings for its football hierarchy: (1) Joe Buck and Troy Aikman; (2) Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa; (3) Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick; (4) Dick Stockton and John Lynch; (5) Chris Myers and Tim Ryan; (6) Ron Pitts and Jim Mora; and (7) Sam Rosen and Chad Pennington. Newcomer Gus Johnson and Charles Davis will periodically supplement their college football duties with a pro game.

Carolina Panthers. I watched the first few Panthers games last year and I'm pretty sure Rosen did about 4 of them.

Oh god you're right. That's bleak. Here's how I think it will shake out in Week 1:

Atlanta/Chicago: Buck-Aikman

Philly/St. Louis: Brennaman-Billick

Detroit/Tampa: Stockton-Lynch

NY/Washington: Albert-Johnston

Seattle/SF: Myers-Ryan

Carolina/Arizona: Pitts-Mora

I am way more annoyed than I should be that this quote refers to Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa as a "pairing."

Aren't Buck and Aikman contractually obligated to call an all-NFC East game to start the season?

albert and moose are a pairing, and then siragusa is so fat that he constitutes a pairing by himself.

Siragusa is completely pointless. I don't know why they insist on putting him out there.

I was leaning towards picking them for the Giants-Skins, but honestly, with Atlanta-Chicago, how could they possibly send their "A-team" to D.C.? Surely they wouldn't right? Right?

I hate ESPN for a lot of reasons, but the headline "Tebow number 2 on depth chart" really angers me. Who gives a flying rat's ass?

A whole lot of people care. Tebow has a ridiculous number of people interested in his situation. You don't have to like it, but there's plenty of interest.

3rd best-selling NFL jersey last year.

Skip Bayless gave a passionate defense of Tebow this morning and even started yelling.

There are lots of nice guys in the NFL, but only Tebow has been able to parlay being nice into getting people to completely ignore that he's not good at being an NFL quarterback, and isn't likely to get good either.

One dumb argument I've heard about Orton/Tebow is that Denver MUST start Orton because he gives them the best chance to win games this year.

If you think he can get you to the playoffs, sure, but if he's going to eke out 8-8 while starting Tebow makes you 6-10 but maybe figuring out if he can be your QB of the future, then no, you don't HAVE to start him.

look i don't think he'll be much good either, but he only played parts of 9 games and had 82 passes thrown, and he wasn't terrible. it's a bit early to just say he sucks.

If 8-8 is the best the team can hope for, then they should start Orton in hopes he dazzles well enough to earn something in trade midseason when someone's starting QB gets hurt, and then they can go back to their losing ways with Tebow.
