Glazer says that a new CBA was officially agreed to about 3 or 4am EST last night. Player vote today. Players begin arriving at team facilities on Tues to recertify, etc. Camps open Wed-Sat. Conflicting info on the start of free agency. An email Drew Brees sent out says that free agency may start on Tues at noon, with no grace period to re-sign your own players.

Now there's reports that free agency could begin....today!

According to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter, a projected timeline would have the new league year beginning on Aug. 2. But teams could start signing their own free agents and talking with unrestricted free agents today, and begin signing unrestricted free agents Tuesday. Those signings wouldn't become official unitl Aug. 2. Trade talks also could begin today.

I was just about to post that same article. Today for re-signing your own free agents, tomorrow afternoon for signing free agents from other teams.

Glazer reports that, starting Tuesday, teams can make trades and start signing rookies (presumably, both draft picks and undrafted).

Though free agents from other teams can’t be signed until 6:00 p.m. ET Friday, teams will be permitted to talk with them (and, presumably, line up deals in principle) beginning Tuesday.

Grrr...stupid conflicting reports.

From an article on ESPN.com, here is every team's projected cap situation:

Tampa Bay 59.2 M Under
Seattle 39.0 M Under*
Arizona 37.3 M Under
Chicago 37.0 M Under*
Buffalo 35.9 M Under
Cincinnati 35.9 M Under
St. Louis 35.6 M Under
Kansas City 34.3 M Under*
Cleveland 33.3 M Under
Jacksonville 31.4 M Under
Carolina 30.6 M Under
San Diego 19.4 M Under
San Francisco 18.9 M Under
Detroit 16.6 M Under
Atlanta 13.9 M Under*
Miami 13.6 M Under
Philadelphia 13.0 M Under*
New Orleans 11.7 M Under*
Washington 10.6 M Under
Tennessee 10.3 M Under
Houston 7.6 M Under
New England 7.6 M Under*
Baltimore 5.3 M Under*
Denver 1.0 M Under
Green Bay 0.1 M Under*
NY Jets 1.2 M Over*
Indianapolis 2.7 M Over*
Minnesota 5.1 M Over
Pittsburgh 10.0 M Over*
Oakland 10.0 M Over
NY Giants 11.3 M Over
Dallas 18.9 M Over

The * designates a playoff team last year. Considering Seattle was a 7-9 playoff team, the Bears have 23.1 M more to spend than the next closest NFC playoff team from 2011, although clearly Tampa Bay could greatly improve themselves and were a team not far from a playoff spot last year. That said, I don't think TB is going to spend anywhere near at cap level.

Tampa Bay has no choice but to spend. I believe the proposed salary floor for the next 2 seasons is 99% of the cap. If they spend well, they could have a very strong team the next few years.

Wow, I knew there was a floor, but I didn't realize it was that high. Damn they are going to be interesting.

Now, they could also just give long term extensions to a few players and make the signing bonus all payed this year to avoid signing a bunch of free agents to long term deals, but the fact remains that they will have to spend money.

Rumor has it the Bears might take care of Forte (high signing bonus and relatively low future salaries) this way after they see how much $$$ they have left after the initial free agency period.

NFLPA leadership unanimously ratified the CBA. It's now down to the rank and file membership. They need 50% + 1 vote to pass it. There's almost no chance they won't get that.

The remaining issues have reportedly been ironed out and approval of the deal is now considered a formality.

Good.

Now it's time to defend that title.

Yep, the Packers suck. Or something along those lines.

Well it's still true no matter how many titles they luck into.

Sure, it was total luck. By your logic it was "lucky" the Bears even made the NFC Championship because they got to play the woeful Seahawks. GB went on a great run, and played the teams in front of them. I don't know what else you would have expected them to do.

AND it was with a bunch of the regulars on IR. Just wait until the season starts and we have a lot of those guys back.

it was lucky that a "bunch" of those guys got hurt because as "bunch" of those backups were better than their regulars.

but please get your hopes up for a "bunch" of titles.

Haha, its not my logic. I just said that to piss the Packers fans off. It doesn't even make sense.

Well, it certainly was lucky that the Bears had already clinched the division and had nothing to play for in Week 17

And it was unlucky the Bears decided to play their starters the entire game. Yes they went really vanilla with their play calling, but the Bears could have easily played 3rd stringers the majority of the game and no one would have said anything.

Posted

If we want to talk about unlucky, how about Jay Cutler and his gimpy knee amirite?

I kid. Cutler is a gamer and he wanted to play through it. Some of the meatheads after that game were seriously embarrassing.

Posted

The Packers lucked into the playoffs, there is no doubt about that because they wouldn't have made it if the Lions didn't beat the Buccanears and then if Desean Jackson doesn't have his miracle return then the Packers don't make the playoff but it takes a hell of a lot of talent to go on the road and win three playoff games and then beat a very good Steelers team in the Super Bowl.

I very happy the Packers won the Super Bowl and I am glad that they have bragging rights from the NFC title game as well but all that's in the past and I'm just happy that we don't have to miss a season of football. I just wish the NBA could salvage their season too.

Posted

Yeah well, you may be NFC and Super Bowl champions, but lets not forget who is the defending NFC North Champion. :) ..... :(

Honestly, the Packers beating the Bears and winning the Super Bowl completely erased any enjoyment I had last season. I almost forgot the Bears won the North, as I haven't thought back on the season at all since it ended. Too painful.

Posted
are we going to have to hear about the packers winning the super bowl throughout the entire 2011 season? if so then i wish the season had gotten cancelled by the lockout.

That would have meant February 2013 before they are dethroned (barring a repeat) as the current world champions of the NFL. That's way too damn long for me. It has been kind of nice that the lockout has taken some of the spotlight away from them though.
