I'm surprised a Minnesota fan hasn't gone all Tonya Harding on Favre's knee or cranium to make sure he doesn't play on Sunday. Does anyone besides Favre care if Favre starts on Sunday?

ESPN

Haha. Ironically enough, that's where I read that Favre was taking daily tests to get clearance to play on Sunday. You win.

The Vikings would be far better off going with Joe Webb and seeing what they've got. But they would have been better off going with Tarvaris a month ago and they didn't, so who knows.

Can any of you Packer fans tell me if Capers is under contract for 2011 or does his contract end at the end of this season?

It hasn't been brought up at all. If he's mentioned for a head coaching gig, I think he'd obviously be receptive towards that. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure he'll be around next year.

The reason I'm asking, is his name is being tossed around Cowboy circles as a possible DC for the Cowboys if Garrett gets the job. He was Garrett's choice when he interviewed for the Baltimore position. Now, I'm not saying he would leave Green Bay, but Jones is known to overpay if it's someone he wants. I also know if he's under contract, Dallas can't talk to him without permission. I was just wondering if his contract was up or would he be out of the question.

I'd love to see Capers leave the North, precipitating a decline in GB.

But it's a horizontal move, and frankly GB seems like a better gig right now.

That sets up an unfortunate situation where I must root against a former Bear I would rather not root against.

Congrats Leslie. But now you must be destroyed.

Meaningless game for the Titans Sunday. It won't happen, but I'd like to see them start Rusty Smith so he can get some more game action.

I'm far more interested in the offseason and what's going to happen with the Vince soap opera and the coaching staff than this game, though. And I'll bet the players will be as well, which is good news for the Colts.

I hope the Colts/Caldwell are smart enough to be prepared for the surfeit of trick plays and such that Fisher is likely to throw at them today. Wish I could I had faith in them being smart enough.

That said, I expect the Colts to win.

I'll be absolutely stunned if we don't see at least an onside kick by the Titans today and maybe a fake punt as well.

Looks like Garrett will be named the permanent coach of the Cowboys.

I was really hoping Jerry Jones would fall in love with Fisher enough to enable Bud Adams to trade Fisher to the Cowboys. I think Fisher's gone after the year anyway, so it would have been nice to have another crazy owner willing to give us a pick for him so that Bud wouldn't have to absorb Fisher's 2011 salary.

I don't think Jerry would have ever given a pick for Fisher. The rumors there were conditioned on Fisher either quitting or being fired.

It's being rumored that Jerry had narrowed it down to those two, and that he feels comfortable working with Garrett. Also, supposedly Jerry consulted Jimmy Johnson who gave Garrett a ringing endorsement.

Now, the big question is the assembling of Garrett's staff. There's a lot of talk that Garrett will want Capers as his DC if he can be lured away from GB. Supposedly, his contract is up at the end of the season if GB doesn't extend him before it expires.

There's also a rumor floating around that Dick Vermeil could be brought in as a consultant.

no offense, vance, but that's a dallas crack-pipe dream.

I didn't really think he would, but was hoping it'd be possible if he fell in love with the idea of a big name hire like Fisher. It was mainly me coming up with ways that the Titans wouldn't have to continue to pay Fisher if he didn't resign.

That'd be really interesting. Consultant for the staff, personnel or both?

For what it's worth (and for whoever cares), a message board guy who claims to have an "inside source" with the Titans says a press conference will be held Tuesday at which Fisher will resign. Another guy with sources backed him up.

It's message board stuff so who knows, but if they're right, it wouldn't shock me.

I don't know what role Vermeil would play. I would think a consultant for the staff , as a sounding board for Garrett, mentor, etc.

Rumor is that Jerry's biggest concern about Garrett is his lack of experience. Bringing in a consultant like Vermeil might mitigate that some. Vermeil had a lot of the same philosophies about practice that Garrett has, so it would probably work.

They attempted something similar with Dan Reeves a year back, but it fell apart when Jerry wanted a clause in Reeves' contract that would state how many hours he would work each week and Reeves balked at it. They have offered a similar position to Jimmy Johnson, but he likes his relaxed schedule and FOX gig and has declined. Jimmy still unofficially consults with Jones on occasions and supposedly Garrett consults him as well. This with Vermeil would be a more formal relationship if it happens.

It may be, but if his contract expires, Dallas could interview him. While he might prefer GB, I'm fairly certain Jerry will pay more than GB and probably add Asst HC to his title.

It's also true that Garrett wanted Capers as his DC had he taken the Baltimore job. He turned that down and GB ended up hiring Capers. Capers contract according to sources ends at the end of the season. When that happens, Dallas would be free to interview him, even if it is a lateral move.

Now, I have no way of knowing whether Capers would be interested or not. Neither does anyone else without personal connection to him.

Gary Kubiak might be really good at extortion. Sources are saying he will be retained at Houston.

In exchange for keeping his job, he's firing the defensive staff and bringing in Wade Phillips as DC.

Thats the logical choice, he has ties to the city/organization and is a good DC. Plus Bob McNair is cheap.

There's always Marvin Lewis, who will undoubtedly be available and I think should still be very good as DC.

I can't find anything definitive on Capers' situation. So I guess it really is just an open question. --and one that is unlikely to be addressed seriously by Capers until the Packers are out of the playoffs.
