I didn't watch a lot of Carolina football last year, but I tend to reserve opinion when a QB has almost literally zero talent around him.

good quarterbacks can make at least a few plays with substandard NFL players.

carolina is a far cry from "substandard"

jimmy clausen is a no talent puke who never ever looked like an nfl quarterback last year. i don't know how anyone can defend his performance, he just ran out there and pissed his pants and ran back to the bench a bunch of times per game.

Oh man, I don't like that pick. Sorry dew. He's got a lot of potential, I know, but still.

I don't hate it because of the potential, but the biggest reason I don't like it is it was clearly a knee-jerk reaction to the VY era. He didn't work out so they eschew talent for work ethic and attitude.

It's harder for pocket passers to make plays with substandard talent than more mobile QBs. That can be a defense of Clausen and a reason to favor Newton. There's also room between what Clausen is now (not very good) and what he can become (solid to very good).

Giving up on a QB after one year when you invested a high pick just isn't a good idea.

what on earth leads you to believe that he can be "solid to very good"? what did he show?

this is like the science vs faith argument. if you think he can be good based on faith, i respect that, but there is certainly no scientific fact or empirical data whatsoever to support your belief.

you better send out a vatican priest to investigate this matter.

on a related note, have any of you jerks gotten one pick right so far in the mock draft thread?

The Dallas pick was right, but that's the only one in the first round. There were a couple cases of the right position but wrong player.

He did have a career pre-2010 keep in mind. He's got all the physical tools and my opinion of what he could be was formed before his one poor NFL season with terrible talent around him. It's overreacting to ignore an entire college career and draft workouts over that one season - unless you felt that way about Clausen beforehand and then I'd have to ask why you felt that way.

So . . . Freeney and Mathis against rookie QBs for a fourth of the schedule next year? Interesting . . .

While he could start, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gabbert sit next year and develop behind Leftwich. It'd be the best move.

Are the Panthers the worst organization in professional sports?

Berman AND Gruden??? [expletive] this.

Raiders, Clippers, Pirates, Edmonton are clearly ahead of Carolina

Wrong crappy QB. Garrard. But I'm sure you're right about Gabbert not starting.

Hahaha, Gabbert to Jacksonville. Poor kid.

Jags have some talent.

They could quickly become the best team in the AFC South if Gabbert develops.

Watt over Amukamara is a little surprising from Houston. Especially since the DE depth is better than the CB depth.

lots of guys are great in college and then can't tie their shoes in the NFL. clausen is one of those guys, he just isn't an NFL football player.

you keep mentioning a lack of talent around him and i keep telling you that a lack of talent around you is no excuse to be a part of that lack of talent.
