Mallett ran a 5.37 40 in his pro-day yesterday. Which would have been good for dead last among all QB's. In retrospect Jared Lorenzen ran a 5.29

Whoever drafts Mallett better have a superb offensive line because Mallett isn't moving much back there.

At this point, the only first round QBs I have any interest in are Newton and Gabbert. And even then, there are probably too many questions with both to be convinced you should pay them what a top 3-5 pick will warrant (even with a rookie cap).

Von Miller ran a 4.49 40 today. Am I crazy for thinking he and Patrick Peterson might be the best prospects in the draft?

I know it's nitpicking, but I saw 4.51 and 4.53 for Von today on an A&M site. Where did you see 4.49? And I'm obviously biased, but the only surprise concerning Von for me on draft day is if he falls below #5. I don't expect it, but #1 wouldn't shock me.

The National Football Post reported it.

Miller ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds today at the Aggies' Pro Day workout, faster than his 4.53 that he clocked at the combine.

Despite my thinking he and Peterson are the best prospects in the draft, I'd be surprised if either is taken #1. Has there ever been a linebacker selected first overall? It seems to be reserved largely for QBs, RBs and OTs (with the occassional DT/DE thrown in).

Id be shocked if he was taken #1 for the reasons Dew mentioned. That and I would take Peterson over Miller if we are going the unconventional route for #1 picks.

The more I look at this the more I think the Bears should trade into the middle of the second round and pick up an extra third round pick. There are a bunch guards being valued as 2nd and 3rd round types, and lord knows we need more than one offensive lineman, a corner, and probably a DT at a minimum. I'd love to see them somehow grab Austin from UNC.

I like the thought of trading down somewhat. The Bears have a lot of needs, but only 6 picks. So, if they can go from 3 to 4 picks in the top 100-110, the better off the team may be. Then again, they also need some legit 1st round talent on this team. But at 29, those guys are going to be borderline 1st rounders anyway.

It's going to be tough to justify trading down if guys like Pouncey, Liuget, and/or Carimi are there. I think those 3 are all good fits for what the Bears do and can be Day 1 starters and stay there for years to come.

I agree, particularly if Pouncey is there at 29. Perhaps under that scenario you trade the 2nd rounder and pick up an extra, early fourth or later third round pick?

Saying like having a 1st, 2- 3rd, 2- 4th, 5th, and 6th round pick?

If you wanna use that draft pick value chart (I don't know if GMs actually use it or not), but the Bears 2nd rounder is worth 292 pts... You could get the 86th/92nd for that pick. Best 3rd round pick you can get along with another 3rd pick is 83rd and 96th... If you want a 65th-82nd pick, then you get a 4th round pick or possibly 5th round (if you want like 65th-70th).

I honestly rather trade the 1st round pick if you're going to trade a pick. You could get a 2nd/3rd/4th round picks for that 29th pick... For example, 56th/78th/107th picks would equal the 29th pick. If you did that the, Bears got 2 picks in each of 2nd/3rd/4th round at 56th/61st/78th/93rd/107th/125th.... Then you could package like a 3rd and 4th round pick to move up in the 3rd round if you want, but I would be perfectly fine with having 6 picks in a span of like 70 picks (even if the first pick is at 56th).

Or you could get a good 2nd/3rd pick for that 29th pick... For example, 46th/78th would do it... There's other combos as well (I mentioned it earlier in this thread), but in this situation, Bears would have 2 picks each in 2nd/3rd round.

So you can have something like:

1st, 2- 3rd, 2- 4th, 5th, and 6th round pick (trading 2nd round for a 3rd/4th round picks)

or...

2- 2nd, 2- 3rd, 2- 4th, 5th, 6th (trading 1st round for a 2nd/3rd/4th round picks)

2- 2nd, 2- 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th (trading 1st round for a better 2nd/3rd round picks)

So you're going to trade a pick in the draft, it's the 1st rounder as it can give you the best value. It would be sweet if somehow Angelo can trade that 29th pick for a 2nd/3rd/4th round picks and IMHO, I would make that trade even if there's a LT or Liguet is still on the board. 3 picks is hard to pass on... Then again, I don't think I've ever seen a trade like that ever happening unless if was for like a top 10 pick.

The way I see it is if you are going to be picking in the late 20s, that is pretty much a borderline 1st round talent you will be getting anyway. If you can trade that borderline first for a high-to-mid 2nd rounder and get another player in the top 110 on top of it, it's a move to make provided there's not a steal on the board in the 1st nor a huge dropoff in talent at positions your team needs.

More draft rumors heard by Wes Bunting - here are some tidbits of interest to the board:

Hearing the Colts are really considering bringing in a successor to 35-year-old Peyton Manning either this year or next to begin the long grooming process. To date the Colts have brought in four quarterbacks for private workouts.

Two receivers who have seen a late surge up draft boards in recent weeks, due in large part to their strong pro day performances, are Georgia’s Kris Durham and Illinois’ Jarred Fayson. Both now have a shot of going during the later rounds of the draft.

The Bears are said to have taken an interest in South Florida defensive tackle Terrell McClain and he could be an option for Chicago on day two of the draft.

I'm hardly in the know at all about this, but in the opinion of the board, who do you see the Packers taking in the 1st round?

They are taking whoever they feel is the best player. Sorry, that's a vague response, but it's true. If I had to place a bet, I would guess either OLB on the other side of Matthews (Brooks Reed, Akeem Ayers if he's there) or a DE (Cam Heyward, Muhammad Wilkerson if he's there). But I could also see them picking OT, CB, WR, or a longshot of RB (if Ingram falls or they really like LeShoure/Ryan Williams).
