Still would have arguments. Does Wisconsin, TCU or Stanford get left out this year? Right now Wisconsin is 5 in the BCS, but ranked ahead of Stanford in every poll. If you don't have the BCS, Stanford loses out despite their 1 loss coming to one of the top 2 teams, while Wisconsin lost to a team that's not even in the conversation.

Well of course. Every sports has arguments about teams that just miss. NCAA basketball does. There's whining in the NFL about an NFC West team getting in. It's just the nature of sports. This way though, you remove a lot of the polling from the process. Not completely of course, but if the TCU's and Boise State's of the world really can't compete, they'll be out in the first round, and we'll be down to a real 8 team tourney after that, with real contenders.

So then you just start at 4 and it's real contenders right from the outset. Or as I said, 8 at the most.

conference championship games will be a farce. In the past, a team like Auburn would suffer if they lost the SEC championship, not in a 16 team tourny. 4 and 5 loss teams will get in with regularity. Teams that would finish 2-10 in a real conference will get in.

Then they'll lose, and you won't have to worry about them being in a national championship game. Or they'll win, and refute that argument.

They will lose boring and pointless games that nobody but the fans of the favorite want to watch.

Nah...people watch the March Madness games...people will watch these too.

More money with more teams, and you pacify the fans of teams from "lower" conferences.

"Put $500 million in the bank and go to all the schools and pay them money as an option," Cuban said. "Say, 'Look, I'm going to give you X amount every five years. In exchange, you say if you're picked for the playoff system, you'll go.' "

Pay ALL the schools?? So you're saying I can get 4 million dollars every 5 years in exchange for a guarantee that I'll go to your playoff? SIGN ME UP

I think you might be surprised who would take a million dollars a year on top of smaller bowl revenue that's distributed through the conference.

People watch march madness because there are 4 games on at once and at least one usually involves a potential upset, and it's the only thing going on at the time. You will see 40-10 blowouts one at a time in this situation that nobody will want to watch. Meanwhile, NFL races will be coming to a head with their playoffs about to begin.

So what's the problem then? If it's gonna be all blowouts, what's the problem? You just think it's a waste of time? If nobody watches, they won't make money, and they'll shrink the tourney. What's the worst case scenario here?

Each one of those games would be fantastic. I wouldn't want to miss one.

Replace Alabama with UConn, because nobody would go for it unless each conference with a voice got representation.

Man I would love a playoff so badly. I know there are a lot opposed to a 16 team playoff but could you imagine the excitement of that first weekend. 8 playoff games, schools from tiny conferences playing the juggernauts. Maybe they would get blown out, without even an exception. Or maybe, just maybe there would be a few good games.

Regardless, while I barely watch any bowl games now (just Michigan's bowl, snippets of the BCS bowls and the BCS Championship game), I would plan my entire weekend around watching a playoff round. This year I'm not even excited for the bowls because I'm pissed that for like the 3rd year in the last 4, there is an undefeated team that is left without a shot to play for the title.

NCAA though is 65 spots. Plenty of teams can argue to be one of the best 65 or best 33 or however many at large teams there are. NFL doesn't have an argument to me because there are teams that get in every year due to unbalanced schedules. Is the Rams getting in at 8-8 in a division of all 8-8 type teams any better than a team getting in at 13-3 when 6 of those wins are vs. teams crappy division (see San Diego recent history)?

A college football playoff would probably be the best thing ever. What sports fan wouldn't watch all eight of those first-round games?

as long as it's not NCAA sanctioned, the money can be split however they want

If it got anywhere close to happening, I would guess the NCAA would all of a sudden think a playoff is a great idea, and either set up their own, or get involved and sanction this one.

I think it'd be easier for jersey to just say he hates college sports. Because the "nobody wants to watch those games" argument isn't even an argument.

I love college football and would prefer a better version of the national championship game. The 16-team playoff is a dumb idea.

4 would be easier just from a tv standpoint and trying to maximize ratings. Throw them all on all CBS and have them start at 11 am with Gus Johnson annoucing every game.

We aren't really asking what your preference is here. The question is would you watch the slate of games that Raisin listed?

If there were college teams play unsanctioned games for money, can't the NCAA bar that from happening? If anything I'd think they'd find a loophole that says doing something like that strips the athletes of their eligability even if the money isn't going to them.

It's a meaningless list because that is not how it would play out.

It's not just the slate of first round games either, it's letting in teams that do not deserve a shot and destroying a significant amount of meaning of regular season games.

Says who? You? How many March Madness teams get in that don't deserve a shot? Every postseason tournament has a team that gets in that you think "really"? Big whoop. The teams that "deserve a shot" should whip them then, right?

Your argument screams elitism.

technically speaking, the BCS title game is unsanctioned
