Figured we could use this since some of the news isn't really deserving of their own threads. I basically wanted to start this so I could point out that...

The Braves and Brewers continue to discuss trades that would send an outfielder to Atlanta for a young pitcher, reports MLB.com's Mark Bowman. However, the Brewers are more inclined to move Carlos Gomez than Lorenzo Cain. The Brewers requested Mike Minor for Cain, and the Braves balked at trading him or their other top young arms.

Who the hell is Lorenzo Cain?

The Royals announced they've reached an agreement with outfielder Jeff Francoeur on a one-year deal with a 2012 mutual option. Francoeur will receive a $2.5MM guarantee with another $500K in incentives, tweets Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. The option is worth $3MM. The match comes as no surprise, with Royals GM Dayton Moore showing longstanding interest and also a tendency to acquire players who played for his former employer.

Francoeur, 27 in January, hit .249/.300/.383 overall in 503 plate appearances this year for the Mets and Rangers but did have a nice 56 PA Texas stint. Francoeur was once an up-and-comer with the Braves, hitting 29 home runs as a 22-year-old. He is represented by Molly Fletcher at Career Sports.

How does Jeff Francoeur continue to gain employment on a major league roster? Hasn't his defense taken a rather large hit? Combine that with his terrible offense, should he be given any deals worth over a million dollars?

Dayton Moore.

And teams remembering him when he was an SI poster boy and forget he has zero plate discipline.

Also, for the annual offseason "What's Mark Prior up to these days?" update...

Cliff Lee isn't the only pitcher the Yankees and Rangers are bidding against each other on. Those two clubs are the finalists for Mark Prior, according to Tom Krasovic of AOLFanHouse (on Twitter). The 30-year-old right-hander has a connection to both clubs; he pitched in the Rangers' minor league system last year and the Yankees selected him 43rd overall in the 1998 draft, but were unable to sign him..

Wood and Prior possibly together again.

Padres get Bartlett...

The Padres have acquired Jason Bartlett from the Rays, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock (on Twitter). Adam Russell and Cesar Ramos could be heading to the Rays in the deal.

The Padres had a vacancy at short since Miguel Tejada signed with the division rival Giants. The Rays can ease Reid Brignac into an everyday role. The 24-year-old batted .256/.307/.385 in 326 plate appearances in his first extended taste of the major leagues.

The Dodgers agreed to sign Dioner Navarro, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times (on Twitter). The deal is pending a physical. The Rays non-tendered the former Dodger last week after his tenure in Tampa Bay ended on a sour note.

Isn't that a guaranteed combined 40 wins and ERA+ of 150 waiting to happen? I would officially stop watching sports if that happened.

Twins trade SS J.J. Hardy and IF Brendan Harris to the Orioles for two minor league pitchers. Name on the first guy is fuzzy - supposed to be a Single-A pitcher by the name of Jacobson/Jacobsen - and the other is AAA reliever Jim Hoey.

Probably this guy. According to MiLB.com he's the only minor league pitcher named Jacobson or Jacobsen, he is with the Orioles, and he did pitch in A (Carolina League) this past year.

Actually it's a guarantee that I don't cancel our DVR service anytime soon. Nothing like taping a Yankees game and fast forwarding to the only parts I care about.

A trade sending shortstop Jason Bartlett of the Tampa Bay Rays to the San Diego Padres is off, at least for now, because the teams couldn't finalize the deal, sources tell ESPN.com.

That's really gonna sink the Padres chances now.

Any else getting the feeling we are going to simply end up swapping first basemen with the Rays?

I can't see the Orioles missing out on Adam LaRoche. DLee to the Rays? Unless, of course, they simply throw Zobrist over there! HaHa.

I am so glad I never became a Rays fan when they first came to town. There management pisses me off almost as much as the Cubs.

The Rays are likely to have have 8 of the first 100 picks in next year's draft. I think their management knows what it's doing.

I would have to say they dropped the ball this past season by only adding Chad Qualls at the deadline.

What happened to Bartlett in '09?

Not sure. I haven't heard much on him since Matt Santos was elected.

Despite having his running mate die during the campaign.
