How do you people make it your business to know O-Line coaches, etc? That is very strange to me

O-Line coaches on college teams? I don't see that as very strange. I know all of Tennessee's coaches (and grad assistants) quite well. I figured that was the norm.

::shrug::

At schools like Tenn, Auburn, and the real UT (just kidding Dew) I think it's more the norm. But also these coaches make more than a lot of OC's and DC's. And now a days they are the major players in recruiting.

Yeah, we've had kids commit or not commit because of who our position coaches are. I tend to keep up with every assistant Tennessee hires because all of them play a significant role on the team. I just assumed everybody did that (other than casual fans, that is).

I don't know that it's the norm. It's not uncommon for fans to know the coaches of their cfb team, but there are probably a great deal of fans who don't know anyone outside the HC and maybe the coordinators.

Hearing that Tulsa will hire Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee as their next HC. Supposedly they offered the job to Texas A&M DC Tim DeRuyter but he quickly turned them down after they lowballed him on the salary. I was really worried that he may be gone. I assume we'll have him for 1 more year, maybe 2 tops.

Been some reports that Grimes is in Austin today.

Yes, he's there today interviewing.

Makes sense regardless of what he wants to do. If he wants to stay at Auburn, today's interview will get him a nice raise.

I'm hearing from a relatively reliable source that Grimes is back in Auburn this morning and will hear AU's counteroffer today.

McGee issued a statement saying he's no longer being considered for the job.

Just saw that Joe Schad reported McGee withdrew his name. I don't like that. I assume they will come back after DeRuyter with more cash. Ugh.

Fits what I read that Grimes left last night with a deal being finalized but could still happen soon. As long as they get either Grimes or Wickline I will be happy. Acutally if Texas ends up with Grimes, Auburn should offer Wickline.

Tulsa will hire Bill Blankenship according to the Tulsa World.

Also, ex-Stanford OC Greg Roman is following Harbaugh to the 49ers.

These are some of the names being rumored as possible OC candidates at LSU:

Jim Chaney (OC at Tenn), Paul Chryst, Major Applewhite, Kenny Edenfield (OC at Troy) and the darkhorse- Terry Bowden.

What's with your team chasing UT assistants? First the Cowboys have interest in Baggett and now LSU has interest in Chaney. I want some stability with this football team.

I think Denard will end up staying. I think Hokes gets in his ear and tells him he can be the next Michael Vick.

Fiver have you heard anything? I heard he has the weekend to think it over, but that they are ready to move on quickly should he stall at all.

CFT[/url]"]To further buttress that fact, at least on the Miles side of the equation, a member of LSU’s board confirmed that the talks between LSU’s head coach and Michigan were serious enough that money was discussed. And that Miles turned down a significant raise to remain in Baton Rouge.

“He was offered more than 4 million to become the Michigan coach,” LSU Board of Supervisors member Stanley Jacobs told the Shreveport Times. “When he said no, they came back and offered him more. And he said no again. …

“He never leveraged his offer from Michigan for more money from LSU. This guy is the real deal. He really is. He was offered more money. I was told in the $4.25 million range and turned it down. Then they came back and offered more, and he turned it down again.”

Miles currently makes $3.75 million, and the two sides are currently working on a new contract that, unbelievably, will not include a bump in pay.

Yeah, I'm glad he's staying. Hopefully, that means Westerman will follow but still not sure that is the case.

Yeah right now I am thinking thats about 50/50 for where he goes. He committed to Texas cause of the family atmosphere he claimed, we will see. I think it helps that Texas is his last official visit we just have to have an OL coach in place to have any shot.

Chaney's name came us as the result of someone throwing crap at a wall to see what would stick, I think. Miles wanted Crowton out because Crowton like more of a spread offense, while Miles wants someone to line it up and run it, Michigan style. If that's true, he's not looking to hire Jim Chaney.

Hopefully that's right. Chaney's not a "Power-I" 3 yards and a cloud of dust coordinator, so he won't fit if Miles is looking for that.

Looks like Ronnie McKeefery is Tennessee's next S&C Coach. He recently left USF after 11 years to take a job as Human Performance Coordinator for the US Army Special Forces 160th something-or-other. And this is from his bio on the USF site:

"In 2008, McKeefery was named the Under Armour Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society. Most recently, McKeefery was a finalist for the 2009 NSCA Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year."
